Question about RCA RS2505 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

Cd player every time i put in a cd, it says "reading" for about 5 seconds, then it reads "no disc".. and it doesn't spin the cd at all. i've tried every combination of using different CDs, or having it open and then pressing the button of the cd that i wanted it to go to. but it always does the same thing. if i have all 5 cd trays filled it just skips through each one until it has read all of them and tells itself that there is "no disc".

RCA has had lots of bad laser pickups the past several years. It has to focus before it will spin. Sometimes they will focus and spin but still not read the disc. Unfortunatly that unit is a throw away and no parts or service literature is available from RCA/Thomson. So if cleaning it does not do it, you are probably out of luck. CD lens cleaning discs: Every CD, stereo equipment, department, discount, store - and even sidewalk venders - carries CD lens cleaning discs. Are they of any value? Can they cause damage? I generally don't consider CD lens cleaning discs to be of much value for preventive maintenance since they may just move the crud around. However, for pure non-greasy dust (no tobacco smoke and no cooking grease), they may not hurt and could even do a good enough job to put off a proper cleaning for a while longer. However, it's also possible they will ruin the lens. Consider that the worst thing to do to a precision optical surface is to wipe it with a dry cloth as this is likely to scratch the surface as it rubs the dust over it. To the lens, a speck of dust is like a boulder. Once the lens is scratched, replacement of the entire optical pickup is the only remedy. And, since there are absolutely no sorts of standards for these things, it is possible for a really poorly designed cleaning disc to damage the lens even if the dust itself is non-abrasive. In addition, if the cleaning disc doesn't look like a CD to the optical pickup or disc-in sensor, the lens it may not even spin. So, the drawer closes, the drawer opens, and NOTHING has been accomplished! (But at least no damage will be done.) As if this isn't enough, NEVER put one into a high-X CDROM (DVD player or DVDROM drive). The high speed rotation may cause the cleaning disc and/or player/drive to self destruct. And, don't try a cleaning disc on an automotive CD player that sucks in the disk - it will get stuck.

My Sony CD player CDP-CX355 loads the CD,clamps it in place, doesn't spin it but puts it back on the carousel after 5 seconds.

The loading process is out of sync, most likely because of a stretched belt in the mechanism. This is a common problem with Sony "jukeboxes".

Sony cdp-c215 wont read disc removed cover disc doesn't spin

The pladder motor that spins the disc is open, or the laser pickup is defective, the whole laser assembly would need to be replaced, not cost effective to repair cheaper to buy.

When loading a dvd it displays, "NO DISK". Is it

Hello
There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

Player will not read cd . Cd will not spin

Without me seeing it, it usually cannot read the disc and is caused by a defective, or needs to be adjusted or cleaned, laser assembly as long as it is every cd put in it. It can also be the disc spinner motor. Either one of those is the most likely cause. :)

MY Macbook pro disc drive wont read the Starcraft game discs. Every other cd or dvd i put in the drive at least reads, but when I put in starcraft it just spins for a second, pauses, and spins again...

I was pretty disappointed when I couldn't play a 12 year old game on my new macbook either. The best thing to do is go to battle.net, load up the CD key and then load the software onto your mac. The downside is that you will need internet access before playing even if you play single player. That's the way I got around it.
