Wavy Lines which clear up after being on for 10 minutes - Toshiba 50H82

We have the wavy line problem which clears up after about 10 minutes. I see that you have given some suggestions on what might be wrong with it, but do you have a ballpark idea on costs? In your opinion, is it worth fixing it or would you just buy a new TV? Thanks!

It will cost about $300 to fix. The Hyperboard has to be replaced. I had it repaired over 2 years ago and it works great.

Wavy line or scrambled picture when l turn the tv on it takes 30mins for the picture to come in clear

If you have a normal picture with lines through it, or if the picture jumps, tears or rolls, you have a Hyper Board that is failing. The last I checked, the Hyper Board is not available from Toshiba and has not been available for a number of years.
I hope this helps,

My Toshiba 50H82 television takes about 30 minutes to clear up and during that process, it shakes. It becomes clear but still has wavy lines at the top of the screen which is about 6 inches.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Toshiba 50H82 has wavy lines in screen for about

this is a very common problem in a lot of Toshiba sets of this type----bad caps(filter capacitors) on the "Hyper" board---it processes all signals in the set---it will start out where it clears up after warmup and as time goes by it will take longer and longer to clear up----the board is no longer available and the only way to repair is remove the one in the set and send it out for rebuild---most of the time this costs 3-4 hundred parts and labor(not worth doing)

Same Problem

sounds like the Hyper module as it can cause that type of symptom when the Capacitors are getting weak

When I turn on my 50H82 it takes 10 to 15 minutes

I just did a repair on one of these. Check your picture-on-picture. If the the secondary picture is clear, chances are very good the problem is on the "hyper board". We d not replace the hyper board - we repair it. The board is very expensive and rarely, if ever, available. There are several parts in the module that need replaced, but these are definitely not user replaceable. They are very small surface mount components and even I have lifted a copper or trace or two doing these. It is tedious work but our repair bill was well below $300. It is also something I do not do in the home and taking it to the repair facility is a money saver. I did go to the home on this one and remove the board to the shop, however they only lived a few miles away so the service call was low priced. Hope this helps...
