If you're using the S-video connection, one of the wires in the cable may be disconnected or broken... or maybe the S-video connector on either end is broken.

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

Hi the picture on our portable dvd (United DVP9042) player has gone from being in colour to black and white & I can't seem to change it ..... some of the words eg 'dvd' or 'av...

The unit has a color controller PC board that switches between BW and Color. The fact that you still show color at all indicates the circuit is complete and the BW exists independently by itself. In some cases, the problem is due to connecting cables. Change out the current set and see if that presents a solution. Make certain all connections are firm and tight. Other than that, internal data switches pose a problem and the circuit needs to be traced using test equipment to locate the problem.

Picture Rolls

anteetina,

most probably your problem is within color system settings. It's either PAL/NTSC or PAL SECAM signals being produced by your player.

1) try to check your TV screen with regards to color system it use, check the color setting if it does indicate "Auto" "PAL" or "NTSC" try to choose "auto" and see if any changes will occur.

note: you can also check the service manual of your DVD player of what color system it produce and if it's match with your TV screen

cheers.

Colour gone

Did you possibly switch where your wires are hooked up? I just tried hooking my player up to a new tv and I had a black and white picture at one point. Make sure your video wires hook to the proper colored ports.

Hi Christine,
The company that made these has gone out of business, so you cannot get a replacement. However, I have a used 702 which I can sell to you for $45+shipping. It has all the parts, in original box.
I also have a used PDV-705 (this model has a remote control, plus S-Video & more), which I will sell for $60+ shipping. Both have been thoroughly tested and all works great. I can email you photos. Email me at [email protected]
good luck and warm regards,
Marisa
