SOURCE: shattered glass top for Hotpoint range/ how to replace
The cook top on your range should come off by removing 2 to 3 screws under the front edge of the cook top. You will need to open the oven door to see them. Once you have them removed the top should lift up. Please ensure you have the range unplugged and/or the circuit breaker turned off before attempting any repairs to the heating elements. Live voltages are still present with the unit turned off. Now...depending on the type and model of your range, the wiring harness may have a quick disconnect type of plug. If yours is so equipped, replacing the top will be a cinch, because you can remove it from the range to work on it. Take the old top and new top and place them next to each other upside down on a padded surface. Placing some towels on a kitchen table or counter top works best. Now all you have to do is carefully transfer the entire harness and burner elements to the new cook top. You should be able to move the entire assembly with all the burners still connected. A second set of hands will make the process go much easier. If your range does not have the quick disconnect type of wiring harness have someone hold the cook top up or prop it up with something. Carefully remove the element mounting brackets from the cook top (with all the elements still attached). Carefully support all the wires as you do so, and lay the entire assembly (elements and wires) on top of the oven cavity insulation. Once you have everything disconnected from the cook top, discard the old one and position the new one in place. Carefully reinstall the elements while supporting the wires. Additional care should noted not to handle the ceramic material of the elements and/or the heat coils themselves. They are very fragile and the oil from your hands can potentially damage the elements and shorten the life of them. Let me know if this helpful to you. If you get stuck along the way, or have any questions, please respond to this posting by adding additional comments.

While waiting for someone else to answer my question, I fiddled around with the door parts. I managed to reassemble them! Here's how:
1. start with the glass panel. Slide the glass panel into the slot at the bottom of the front door frame on the stove.
2. next attach the handle. There are slots on the bottom of the handle that fit into the top of the glass panel. Slide the handle slots into the top of the glass panel.
3. screw the handle onto the oven door using the predrilled holes on the inside face of the oven door.
4. last, attach each of the two side trim strips. Slide the top of each strip into the bottom of the handle on each side of the oven door. Then slightly bend the strip outwards so that they are short enough to fit into the bottom slot of the oven door frame on each side of the glass panel.

No doubt this is a double paned glass panel. Two panes of glass with a divider strip separating the two for a "thermal break". Okay, you will need to remove the door from the hinges, and along the sides of the door, or possibly under the door gasket, you will find multiple screws that hold the two sandwiched halves of the door together. There should be a front panel, formed sheet steel, and an inner formed sheet steel panel which is coated with porcelin. When you have the front and back halves of the door separated, inside of one or maybe both of the panels you will find the clips, screws, or materials that hold this glass panel in place. Possibly it is in it's own frame, and the frame and glass both remove as one unit. Then it will be a matter of contacting Customer Service and Parts for your product, giving the Model #, Serial # and any other data that may be needed in order to replace the part with the correct one. Since this should be tempered glass, it will be quite heavy and at least 1/4" thick or so. The "thermal break" or space between the panes is so that heat does not transfer readily to the outside panel. Watch for any electrical connections for a door switch for the oven lamp, and be careful when removing the springs which allow the door to close and seal when in the closed position. And it might be helpful to take some photos of the disassembly process so that you can have a reference when you are ready to re-install the door. Be careful when removing the broken glass, and dispose of this carefully. Take your time, be patient, and don't force any thing, and you should be fine. Good lock. Kindest regards, Slats.

Yes a replacement glass is available. They can be tricky to install especially if the door has to come off for disassembly. use your model number on searspartsdirect .com then use that part number to search the web and ebay for the best price.
