My Kenmore microwave out of no where displayed a small lock symbol and will not do anything. I unplugged it and that cleared the time but still would not appear to do anything. I am press the "1" key and it will begin cooking for 1 second and then end immediately. I unplugged it for an hour plugged it back in was able to reset the clock, I checked the timer featurer and used it for a few seconds...it appeared to be fixed...soon after, maybe 15-30 seconds it beeped on it's own the display said "locked" then lock symbol popped up and now the time is displayed and again the only responsive key is the "1"...I have tried holding the start button and the cancel button for up to 10 seconds but they don't seem to do anything. Now it just beeped. It is an older unit but it looks new and has always worked great...model 665.69617991 Any thoughts??

SOURCE: Humming sound, F9 and dead

Seems like I answered this, but maybe it's a different poster.

The 721 model code means it's an LG/Goldstar-made oven and F9 indicates a problem with the inverter or magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models.

I would suggest you contact Sears for service.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: We have white

there is a component called a spatter gard inside the oven at the point where the microwaves enter......if food or other foreign substance gets stuck there, then it will start to burn ...the smell and popping noise is coming from the spatter gard.....to fix it you must remove the spatter gard..replace it if it's burnt and /or sand paper the spot clean and then paint the area with a high temperature paint called mr. touch up......to protect the bare metal from the microwaves.....hope that helps

SOURCE: How do I turn off Kenmore Microwave Beeping?

I've got a Honda Civic hybrid with the same noisy beeper. I can't have the parking lights on and the door open. I can't leave the key in the switch while making a phone call etc. I think we have to presume that like the Honda, there is no software controlled override on you microwave beeper... they know best and want you to feel safe and secure that no burglar will be able to make a cup-o-soup in your kitchen without waking you. A few screws and you should be able to expose the main circuit board and apply a layer of bubble gum or silicone caulk or JB Weld to the beeping device. Most have a small hole in a black plastic cylinder... so cover the hole and then test for loudness. For absolute silence, desolder the device from the circuit board and replace with a resistor matching the amount you measure across the beeper contacts with an ohm meter.

Hey JT Tai, I appreciate your post!
The symbol at the top left hand side of your display could be child lock symbol or vent symbol. If it is the child lock you should be able to press and hold the stop/cancel button down for 3 seconds to release the child lock.

If the light is on for the vent I would seek assistance from a professional for proper diagnosis and repair to be completed on your microwave. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

I have accidentally locked my microwave oven (profile performance convection oven). I was cleaning the front. Can you tell me what to do?

Got you covered. Here you go:

Microwave - Explanation of the Child Lock Out Feature
Many microwave control panels can be locked to prevent accidental use or access by children.
There are two different ways to lock the control panel:
1. Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" and then revert to the time of day.
A small "L" will appear in the corner of the display as a reminder that the control panel is locked. If anyone tries to use the microwave, the display will show "LOCK".
2. On some models, press and hold the 5 and 7 pads simultaneously for 3 seconds.
To unlock the control: Repeat the procedure which was used to lock the control. (Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for about 3 seconds or hold the 5 and 7 pad simultaneously for 3 seconds.)

That info is from GE

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

But please reply back with your full model number so we can help you.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

Kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.
