Hi, The zoom only extended intermittently, then not at all."LensError" message permanant. Camera unusable. This problem occurred when turned on unintentionally, while in the case where zoom could not extend. The design of this camera left the switch very exposed with no locking mechanism to compensate. Therefore, a "zoom jam" is likely to happen. (This same thing happened the first time only 4 months after it's purchase, Nikon, itself, repaired it wth no charge. But even though I've been aware of this potential problem and handled it with care for 2 and 1/2 years, it happened again. Please check to see if Nikon has recognized it's culpability and will support this repair. I will do the same thing, but Nikon is notorious for it's non-response and may be more receptive to your inquiries.) Thankyou, Irene
Its going to be hard for nikon to ever admit culpability over this problem, since many forms of miss use that is not an outcome of this specific design flaw may result in the same "LensError", which is a very common failure. Admitting culpability will cost them too much. This is not to say that it's not their fault... and if you go with your claim to a Nikon service center they might accept the truth of it, and atleast give you a discount on the repair, or offer better conditions on an upgrade. They don't have to, but once in a while you catch them in a good mood. Good luck!
