Many cd players do not have the capability to play mp3 data files. They do not have the processing capacity of a computer, which reads data mp3 and converts it on the fly as easily as other data files used to install software, etc.
If you know your cd player to be mp3 compatible, try burning at a slower speed, like 1/2 the speed the burner is rated for, or less (like 4-8x), to see if the cd player will read that disc. If that doesn't work, try another media brand. Some cds are of inferior quality and won't write well enough for mp3 data files to be read well by all players.
