Printer will not print in black, only colour, even tho I have just replaced cartridge. Before changing cartridge, I pressed Resume button for 5 seconds to finish a job but it wouldn't work from then on. Have tried replacing same new cartridge, asking it to print another document. Please help.

SOURCE: Canon Pixma ip4200--

I read somewhere that if the printer receives instruction from the PC that it requires black only printing (e.g. a letter in Word) then it will use the 5PGBK tank. The 8BK tank is used with the other colours in photo printing only. If you check the greyscale option, it will use ink from the 8BK tank and mix with the CMY colours to print, but I have not tried this out.
Good luck

SOURCE: I have an HP PSC

Try removing the printer then reinstalling it. If you have a disc. I think they have discontinued driver downloads for HP PCS 1300 and 1400. Do not remove it if you do not have an installation disc.

SOURCE: colour is printing but not the black

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

The power button is blinking six orange and then one long green. What does this mean. My printer won't print black at all. Have done all cleans and changed the cartridge but won't print any pages with...

According to the product manual, six flashes of orange indicates an Inner Cover Error. The manual says to close the inner cover and then press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Ink cartridge assembly not going to correct posy to replace black

Remove the cartridge and put it back in. If still it doesn't work, try to do head cleaning and nozzle checks consecutively from the computer.

Start -> Control Panel -> Printers & Faxes (Windows XP) / Printers (Windows Vista) -> Printer Icon (right click) -> Printing Preferences -> Maintenance

You should be able to see nozzle check, click it and follow the prompt. Line patterns that corresponds to the colors of the ink cartridges would be printed. If breaks on the black pattern or no black appears at all, continue with head cleaning. Try to do this about 3 times until all patterns are complete.

Canon i560 printer

I have similar problem. I found this solution that may help you. My problem insists tho.

>>> 5 flashes indicates a faulty printhead or possibly a problem with the p/head contacts. Try removing the head which is easier if you take the cartridges out first(no tools required) and re-seat it having checked the contacts for dirt.

If that doesn't work it may be that the waste ink tank is full. Try this ...
Canon S9000, S300, S400, i550, i560, i850, i860, i865, i9100, i9950, PIXMA iP3000 above,
1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.

8. Your printer should respond as normal.

Pixma 4200 compatible ink cartridge problem help

The ink detection is a critical function of the printer.

Ink actually acts as a lubricant for the heads, and running (Printing) without ink is equavalent to driving a car without oil.

I.E. It will seize eventually....

Hopefully you didn't print much without the ink, and your heads are still in good shape...

Here is a chip reset procedure....

With the original chip now attached to the compatible cartridge (you may need double sided tape to get the chip to stick well to the cartridge), and with the cartridge now in the printer, Press and hold the Reset/OK Button for 5 seconds to reset the chips.
  1. The "Ink Low" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 1 below)
  2. Continue to print until the "ink has run out" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 2 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print.
  3. The "Ink Low" dialog box may reappear, if so repeat the first 2 steps
  4. Then the "once empty" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 3 Below) Click "Yes" to continue to print
  5. The "Not Liable" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 4 below). Click "Yes" to continue to print
  6. Continue to print until the "remaining level of ink" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 5 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print
  7. Another dialog box will pop up with the "press and hold the Resume" or "press and hold the Paper Feed" button (similar to photo 6). Press and hold the "STOP/RESET" button (for Canon MP Series) or "PAPER FEED" button (for Canon IP Series) for 5 seconds. DO NOT Click "Back" or "Cancel Printing"
  8. The "Ink Monitor" dialog box will appear and the printer will continue to print. (similar to photo 7) In the event that that the "press and hold the Resume " dialog box pops up again, Press and hold the Paper Feed Button or Stop/Reset Button for 5 seconds
