Sound Not all but most dvd's has the sound very low, yet background noise is loud. If I hit the sound button, can change to spanish, french, comentator of movie making, etc the sound is perfect, when put on english, goes back to low talking, loud background. Some movies have an ENG1 and ENG2 when push the sound button, those that show that I can switch to ENG2 aeverything is fine. There does seem to be a bypass mode that won't change as well. Thank you for any help.

I have the same problem. It seems the center channel is muffled, like sounds coming from a tin can. Everything else is fine.
Not sure what to do. Is it possible to set that channel thru the TV?

To everyone having sound trouble... there is a solution! First make sure your TV is OFF. Unplugg the 2 main cables going into the DVT 412 for 30 seconds. Then re-plugg them. Press down for a few seconds on all the BLACK tabs connecting the sound wires and release. Without a disc in the player... and the TV still OFF, turn the power on and immediatley hold the down the STOP button on the DVT412 for 5-10 seconds. Your picture, vocal and backround sound will return to normal. Feel free to make changes to the sound now! Happy tuning... GO STEELERS! LOL!

For some reason, I get audio for the visually impaired when i play a DVD. The original sound of the DVD plays but an additional narrative (describing each scene) plays as well. The DVD is a recent...

Generally, remote controls for DVD systems have a button labeled "Audio". This button changes which audio track you will hear during the movie. Common tracks include English, French, Spanish, Commentaries, and occasionally Audio for the Hearing Impaired.

It seems odd for the latter audio track to be default, but clicking the Audio button until you have the plain English track should work. I would consult the manual if you have it on hand to see if your system is capable of remembering which track to start on.

Hope this helps.

No English language on DVD 's

Bought a new unit. The old unit was a surround sound system in which the previous owner removed the speakers. I wasn't aware of the problem but found out that it would not allow it to play on Dolby 5.1...It would only play DVD's on channel 2, therefore no english etc. Thanks for your help!!!

The background noise in a movie on Tv is so loud I can hardly hear the conversations. I have tried the audio menu. Normal, Wide, Low ..They all sound the same.

GO again into the customer menu and look for something that says Hall, Surround etc--I have seen this before--usually it is a setting that creates a problem where the background sounds are so loud you cannot hear the people talking......go thru every section of the menu--I be you will find this is your problem.

Let me know what you find--I am here to help people. I do not think you have a circuit problem--only some thing in the menu has been set to the wrong place.

If this has helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Movies play background noise but no speech. wont allow you to reset factory settings.

This usually happens when you switch between 5.1 or 2.1 there is usually a button or switch on the front of the unit that allows you to cycle through the various speaker setups.

It also happens a lot with downloaded movies where the sound track has been modified to save download bandwidth or if a format change was made eg. dvd to divx

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.

Subtitles...

This could be a problem with a particular DVD media and not the player. The movie (or the program on the DVD) is recorder with default English subtitle. Have you checked it with any other movie DVD to see if it is the same behavior?
