I have a Denon AVR 2803 amp. I also have a Sony RDR VX500 CD Recorder/ VCR. I have the system set up so that the Sony RDR is connected both to the Denon AVR and direclty to my TV. This allows me to watch TV and play music at the same time. Previously, I used the red blue and green component video connection and a optical audio connection from the Sony RDR to the Denon AVR and all was fine. I recently bought a blu ray player and since the Denon AVR only has two component video connections, I used these connection for my blu ray player and my cable box. I left the optcal audio connection in place and I moved the video connection to the Denon AVR to the VCR 1 input using a yellow video line. The sound works fine, but I can't get any picture. I noticed in the instruction manual it says you shouldn't have two video lines going out fromt he Sony RDR (in my case one direclty to the TV and one to the Denon AVR), but that had been the case with my previous set up which worked. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get the video connection?

Thanks for the reply. So it should work if I disconnect the optical audio connection and use the red and white lines for a analog audio connection?

I tried this and unfortunately it did not work. Still no video. Any other ideas?

    I will try that.

The optical audio connection (the TOSLINK) only works when paired with the Component connectors. Now you are using the the Composite one so you must use the audio connectors associated with it, the red and white next to it; then select the VCR1 input when you want to use them.
The audio quality will suffer a little but it will most surely pass unnoticed in most of the cases.

    Yes.

Then the problem is in the Sony, not the Denon. Since you can't use the Sony to play music and a video at the same time then just leave the TOSLINK in place and the only video connection should go to the tv directly. This way the image will be on the tv and the sound will come either thru the tv's speakers or from the Denon, at your decision.

OK. Don't forget to select the correct AV entry in the tv and the correct input in the Denon.

I can't get a menu screen up on my Denon AVR 2803.

Did someone turn the OSD off on the menu? You might try a reset of the receiver. This would be in your manual.

SONY RDR-VX500 DVD eject not working

On most DVDs there is a small hole under the tray where you can insert a straightened paperclip, push in and it will manually open the tray. If not if you can try GENTLY prising the tray open by inserting screwdrivers on both sides of the tray with the power off

How to close DVD file after recording on Sony RDR-VX500

Sorry David you'll need to get a replacement remote. Not the answer you probably want but that's the only way you're likely to close the sessions, unless someone has written some software that can do this. I had a problem with my funai with unclosed sessions and I had remote but laser needed adjusting

Problem when switching on Denon AVR 2803

The sound you describe is usually a mechanical noise from the transformer/case work. Home theater amps tend to have quite large transformer in what is, due mainly to its size, a rattly cabinet.

Over time, the lamination inside the transformer can loosen which could explain why it has only just started doing.

Alternatively, one assumes you moved the amp when connecting the new kit? This may have let the case work rest in a new way which is proving susceptible to relaying the vibration caused by the transformer as an audible noise on switch on.

Failure to record on -R DVDs

DVD-Rs do work with the RDR-VX500 ...... I had not recorded on mine for a few months after I ran out of the last batch ....... then I tried recording on the newer Sony DVD-Rs I had ...... would not record on DVD-R ..... turns out the instructions say the recorder will not work with any DVDs faster than 8x .... It looks like it's recording but it doesn't ..... then I noticed the newer DVDs were 16x ...... found an old 8x and tried it and it works fine ..... turns out the unit won't record slower on a 16x, it just won't record at all ...... get 8x and you'll be ok
