If you are using an external Dlink ensure that you installed the drivers first, if you turn on the laptop you will see the Dlink network program.
If you start it up you can scan for wireless networks.
Go near to the router with the wireless laptop, and scan for wireless networks.
Ensure that you are picking up the right one and connect to your own network. You will probably need to enter the network key.
If you get far from the router you can lose the signal, even in the room aside if there is an obstacle.

I am trying to explain it to you, be patient.

Go near the wireless router, the box connected to the internet.

        Turn on laptop.

You will see a small picture of something resembling a network, on the lower right hand corner of the screen near to the clock.

Click it and open the wireless network management.

....here things change depending on wireless card model, post model if you want details...

find the scan for wireless networks option in the wireless network management.

Find your own network on the list that will be displayed.

Click on it , you will be asked the network key.

enter your network key, if you do not know it you cannot connect, you probably will have to wait for your grandchildren.

Did you enter the security key (password)? It may be your laptop? Try resetting the D-Link to default settings and connecting to the laptop. They reconfigure the SSID and Security Key. Write down the info for future use. Here's a user Manual: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-600-wireless-n-150-home-router

I can not connect to internet, i called my internet provider but they told me to call dlink

ahhh, dlink pretty sums up the problem in my opinion. despite my opinion it might be a hardware issue. if you are trying to connect to wireless get the latest wireless driver software from your laptop/desktop company website. for wire connection update the Ethernet port driver/software. good luck!! hope this helped!

I have seen issues like this before , certain chipsets/drivers of wireless cards and routers just dont like each other.

We know your wireless card works just as we know your router works. Trick is to get them to play nice together. Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to do this, you will have to try different driver and firmware combos until you find one that works.

You can get dlink updates here
http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

And you can try these drivers here.
http://asus-drivers.blogspot.com/2009/01/asus-f3-f3jc-driver-download.html

One other thing you can try before messing around with drivers and firmware is changing the application you use for wireless. The default for your setup is probably Intel Proset. Try using the native Vista wireless manager and see if that does anything. to access that go to start , run , type in services.msc, scroll down to WLAN auto config. Double click on it and then click on start. If you still cant see your router, its time to start trying drivers and firmware.

Does it say limited connection to network? You're connecting it through a wireless router right? Do you see your wireless router when you search for networks?
I had similar problem with my previous Dell laptop. Wireless use to work untill one day it just stopped, found the networks, but kept giving me limited connection whenever i tried to connect. I found out the problem is linked with the driver. Dell laptop i had was also on XP OS.
Maybe try reinstalling the drivers. After I formatted my computer and reinstalled drivers, it started working again.
Hope this helps.

Is the wireless enabled for your router? Try typing 192.168.0.1 and use the default password to access your router settings. Check if wireless is enabled, SSID is broadcasted, and security is off or properly configured.

Acer notebook wireless just connects when near to the modem...

The connection between the laptop's internal wireless antenna and its wireless card may been disconnected. Best to take it in to a computer shop for fixing. If you want to fix it, open the PCI-E cover on the bottom of the laptop, then reconnect the antenna wire. If that doesn't work, get it serviced.
