Unit displays "RCA" when turned on, nothing else

When I power on my Lyra the display reads "RCA". This is all that happens; no music, no other display. I have to remove the battery to make it stop. What is wrong with my Lyra?

Update the firmware off the RCA/Thompson site. Likely that the current firmware is damaged.

I have a mp3 rca lyra radio and mp3 player. It

Do you have the RCA LYRA PEARL, with the folding out usb plug? RCA has made bunch of different mp3 players and has reused the LYRA and the PEARL name. Mine has both names on it, and the firmware file below is for model numbers TC- or TH-1602 or 1604.

One time I replaced my battery and my unit would not go any further than the Pearl logo. So, I downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again.

It wont turn on or play music it seems as if nothings working but when i plug it to the computer it still reads whats on it despite the screen or anything isnt on

Check the lock/unlock switch on the top of the unit. What you described has happened to me, and that is what the problem was.

Not turning on

This happens to me on my Lyra MP3 player when my battery is low. If you have a fresh AAA battery in it, and it is in the right way and your lock on the back of your Lyra is OFF, and you still only get a blink, then you have a defective unit. Return it to RCA and get another one.

Delete more than 4.omb

I think the problem is that you deleted one of the syst. file on the RCA Lyra.. These are the files you need to have in order to make the mp3 player work.

Setting.dat
Music.sec
Time.dat
music.lib

and the 4 folders (Voice) (line-in) (FM) (audible)

Rca lyra rd2765a

When this happened to my unit I had to have it replaced by RCA.  Fortunately mine was under warranty at the time.  About 2 years ago when this happened the RCA rep told me that the unit has a fairly low capacity for shock.  So if you dropped it this could be the issue.
