I have a Bose lifestyle 38 and whenever I watch a show with a lot of background sound - ie music in a movie or crowds cheering for sports, it overwhelms the voices of the actors or the sports casters. How can I adjust the sound to even it out and make the voices audible? Thanks!

I have a lifestyle 28 and when my crowd noise gets too loud, well that sound usually is coming from the back speakers and speech comes from the front. I have to go into settings, located on the front of my remote and then standing right in front of my lifestyle unit , read it until you get to the speaker readings and either turn up your front speakers or turn down your rear speakers just a little.

What makes background sound comes out from Bose lifestyle 38 system is because there is jack cable or a cable that has a jack mouth that brings out a mono sound is being inserted..

Mono cables, when inserted inside a wrong input,it's makes the sound comes out with a background noise just like the one you can hear from it now..it seems as if you are not using the right cable for connection..

To resolve these issue, you will need to use the right cable for connection, by doing these, you will get a clearer sound from you Bose lifestyle 38..

Also it can be from the settings inside the Bose lifestyle 38...So you will need to check both sides to resolve this issue..

You will need to use the manual to know the right cable and the right setting for clear volume..

You can download the user's guide from the below link..

Not sure of the pin configuration and external device.

2. You should be able to connect using Optical-Out port to Optical-In of new device (if it exist)

When I use the headphones listening to TV, I get the background sound (eg music) clearly but the dialogue is very low and drowned out by the background music or ambient sounds

It's because the TV's audio is stereo and the dialogue is mono split between two channels. When dialogue hits your headphones the majority of the mono signal gets cancelled. Try a different set of headphones or watch true stereo channels... IE movie channels

Can I connect my pc to a lifestyle 28 system

If you want to connect your PC's audio output to the Bose Lifestyle system, simply get a cable with 3.5mm stereo male plug on one end, and dual RCA male plugs on the other end. The 3.5mm side will plug in to your PC's LINE OUT jack. The two RCA male connectors will plug in to the Bose AUX IN jacks. On the Bose console (or the remote control) select AUX as the audio source. Your PC's sound will play through the Bose Lifestyle system.

For persons having a large library of MP3 music files on their PC, this is a great way to listen to the music on your hard disk.

We want to hook up an HDMI dvd player to the tv and have the sound come thru the Bose Lifestyle 38 (older model, did not come w/the HDMI converter that the 48 has or newer systems come with). We are not...

The best way to do this is to take your OPTICAL AUDIO OUT from your TV - (if it's a newer TV) - plug it in to the OPTICAL AUDIO IN on your BOSE system, then use the 'TV' source on your Lifestyle 38 to get the sound from. I have sound for X-Box, DVD player, Blue-Ray Player and Wii being pushed through the TV back to the BOSE and it sounds great. I don't have to change the source on the BOSE very much either - except when I listen to stored music!

On my Bose Lifestyle 38 color is different.

Try a different SCART lead, if not try connecting to a different SCART slot on your TV.

If the problem persists I'd contact bose and have them repair it, its not worth taking apart a three grand system if you are not sure what you are doing.
