Question about Friedrich D50C Dehumidifier

Why does the fan run non stop? the compressor runs and shuts off but the fan just runs on high and low. I have 3 other dehumidifiers that the fan runs only when the compressor runs...why doesnt the friedrich fan shut off?

Depending on the time sequence you have this unit set to run, Fredrich's are designed so that the fan runs almost constantly, to keep the air moving. When it senses a rise in humidity above the level you have it set on, the compressor turns ON and runs until the level of humidity is lowered. This is especially true, if you are operating this unit in continual mode.

this is a newer feature that a lot of units do now this is called air circulation mode !! try running on low it's not so noisy then

Dehumidifier won't shut off runs continually
the fan runs or the compressor and fan run ? the reason i ask is all the new units now have a air circulation mode and fan keeps going allthe time run on low speed to avoid noise

LD451EGL no water extraction
Apparently, the fans are running, but the compressor has shut down. It could be a failed compressor, or the charge in the system could have leaked out causing the compressor to shut down.

When turn off. makes a humming sound. compressor seems to be running.
Have same issue with 3 year old Frigidaire dehumidifier purchased in 2012. Must unplug to stop compressor running with power switch turned off. Unit gets hot and smells. Unplugging creates arcs at outlet since unit is pulling a lot of power. Plugging back in after some hours will make it appear to run normally and again remove moisture but it will not shut off when the fan goes off (humidistat bad?) and the set-point is reached. Cannot leave plugged in due to safetty/fire/overheating concern. Have not found answer on this forum or any other so far.

Santa fe dehumidifier running but not producing any condensate. No ice forming on the coils and filter is clean.
You should check if the compressor is running. Your description makes it appear that the fan may be running and the compressor may not be running.

There are many things that can cause a compressor to cease running:

Open defrost thermostat
Bad run capacitor
Low refrigerant charge (caused by refrigerant leak)
Bad compressor relay
Bad compressor overload
Bad compressor motor

Other things to check:

If the fan switch is set to "on" and the humidity control is set to a high humidity level, the unit may appear to be running, but the compressor will not operate. Check the setting of your humidity control.

If the dehumidifier is operating in a room with a high temperature and a low dew point (very low relative humidity), it may be unable to remove any more moisture from the air.

If you are not comfortable troubleshooting the unit on your own, call the manufacturer service department at 1-800-533-7533, EXT 8459. They are very helpful.

This unit is designed with the intention of the fan running all the time. The compressor cycles on and off with demand, however the fan runs continuously to provide constant room circulation.

Your unit is probably operating in defrost mode. When you use a dehumidifier in a cold room, the condensing coils can freeze water. The unit senses this and thus stops the compressor until the water frozen on the coils melts. Then it resumes its cycle. This is a problem you will have during the winter months. It makes the operation of the unit inefficient, but this is otherwise normal behavior.

Is the compressor running or is it just the fan? If its just the fan it is because it is cycling the air and it uses that air flow to check the humidity in the air. If the fan runs non-stop and the compressor does not turn on or the fan does not shut off there is a problem with this unit and you will need to replace it. Since it is brand new you should still be able to return it to the store.

Why does my house smells musty even with a Friedrich humidifier running in basement I've never had this problem before with any other dehumidifier, but the house smells terrible even though the basement feels dry with the unit running. Is this something like the air conditioners in cars that smell if you don't alternate air conditioner and blower? This is a new unit and none of the other dehumidifiers have had this problem. What can I do?
