"Auto Muting" in the context of FM means the output will be muted if the signal is so weak it would result in mostly noise anyway. Interstation radio noise can be annoying and dangerous at high volumes.

First ;During listening FM ,Your " MUTE" switch is "ON" or "OFF" ? if not how about plain STEREO mode ? did you try it ?
Second..how about the other Modes , i.e ..CD ,DVD etc. ? same problem or it happens only in FM ?
ok..now the possible solution; sometimes FM stations do not properly triggers pro-logic circuit and cause such problem and you need to switch to STEREO or A.F.D mode to listen FM (AFM includes sub woofer).. This is true for FM only and it should not happen in other modes as DVD ,CD,Phone etc.. Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know. The Auto Muting mode mutes the audio output of the tuner if the station is not sufficciently strong to be accurately tuned. Otherwise you would hear all that interstation hash noise.
Press the FM Mode button to change it to Mono if you want to manually tune a hard-to-reach station. It will be in Mono.

When a program is broadcast in stereo, you will hear stereo sound; when in monaural, you will hear monaural sound.
This mode is also useful to suppress static noise between stations. The AUTO MUTING indicator lights up on the display.
It must be about the sound quality need of your amplifier. The sound processor simply needs to get clear signals from sources such as fm/am receiver, dvd/cd players etc. in order to manage'em to give you the optimum surround sound. If the fm receiver has an "FM MUTE" option, I recommend that you turn it on. By doing so, you'll receive only good quality fm stations, furthermore your amplifier will let you get surround sound. The second issue you mentioned has its own answer inside. Use a "new" cd player, you can get optical cables, digital coax cables to improve the performance if you like..
I have the same problem -- just bought a used minivan and can't get any audio with the DVD player.
