Question about Panasonic PT-47WX53 47" Rear Projection HDTV
I have an 18 month old Panasonic PT-47wx53 HDTV. About 3 weeks ago, I was watching and the screen went from just fine to both sides converging into the middle of the screen. The sound went away and all I have is a swirling vortex of very faint light in the middle of my screen about 5 inches wide. After a few minutes, the power light starts blinking once every 4 or 5 seconds. Also, about 10 months ago, I had a similar problem, except instead of getting smaller, the screen got about 20% larger, but fixed itself before they could come out for warranty repair. I am trying to figure if these problems could be related to see if the manufacturer might help with the repair. Wondering if someone might have any suggestions.
This sounds like a classic High Voltage problem. Yes the two issues are related. Something in the High Voltage circuit has failed and originally caused the increased size. If you described the problem to the warranty people I'm surprised that they didn't recognize the problem and fix it under warranty. Now you have a short or partial short in the same circuit causing the fault (light blinking) after a few minutes. This problem will not cure itself. As I have told customers in the past "Electronics are not human and will not heal themselves". Maybe in the future, but not yet. You need a technician and it should be covered under warranty if things are as you described. I would recommend calling Panasonic customer service. They are usually a very good customer oriented company.
