Ge refridgerator model sts16abserww, stopped cooling, down at the compressor I hear a slight click then wait a few seconds and hear another click (NO buzz between clicks), then wait a few minutes and the series of clicks repeats. Refridgerator was running fin before move, turned off for a week, then turned on, worked fine for 2 weeks and now it doesn't cool. Note: This has been a garage (with No climate control) kept refridge for the past 5 years. Thanks for your help, David

Hi!
That is probably the compressor relay
The relay is on the compressor and needs replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay

Thank you for using fixya

Fridge stopped cooling but freezer works what could it be

Most likely the=> WR09X10041 Defrost Timer

found inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel. Click HERE for the location. Part location number 648 is the defrost timer. Location number 618 is the=> WR51X10038 Defrost Heater Assembly

If you change the defrost heater then you should also change the WR50X10071 Defrost Thermostat

and that is the location number 620 found HERE First I want you to try turning the defrost timer slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop. Leave like this up to about 30 minutes. You should hear crackling and sizzle noise inside the freezer. If after 30 minutes the compressor and fans do not restart this will indicate the defrost timer and that part will need replaced. Try that first and let me know what happens. I will be here to answer questions if you like, Thanks Sea Breeze

Hello, I posted earlier, but since then, the symptoms have changed. Here is my issue: I have a GE Refridgerator/Freezer model GTS22ICMBRWW. It has the freezer on top and is a standard 21 cu ft....

the answer is probably not what you want to read but the most obvious to save you money
call a technician for a proper diagnosis
fans are used to circulate air and have nothing to with cooling
thermostats control the cooling cycle and the compressor moves the gas ( from gas back to liquid) so that it can be released back to gas in the fridge and freezer sections to produce the cold
you have ordered the parts so, if you can , wait till they arrive then have the technician fit what is necessary
basically I suspect that the problem will be in the compressor start/run capacitor which is a problem area for all fridges

My refrigerator turns on and off i hear clicking sound.the compressor dont stops and then after a few seconds it runs again

my parents have a ge refridgerator tfx27e that is not cooling as of this morning. we had repair place out and they said the compressor is bad. per his words, he tested it and said electric is going to the compressor, but when it tries to turn on, something inside is stopping it so it won't run, needs new compressor.

the issue is, this is in a custom kitchen and the fridge has wood paneling on the front and matches everything nicely. i'm afraid a new fridge will never work with the panels made for this one?

it it worth fixing? i'm also pretty handy, but the repair guy said it's a 5 hour job. advice?

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

You need to clean your coils under the 'fridge,' and wait 24 hours, if it is not not getting cold, perhaps replace the freon. If that does not work, you need to call a repairman.

Frig and feezer stopped working

It sounds like the overload and relay on the compressor. If the problem isn't that then you need a compressor.

Refridgerator does not cool

It has a bad relay on the compressor. Looks like your model is a 50552 Kenmore. If so the part # you need is a 8201799 (start device) cost is $45.96 and you can get it at http://www3.sears.com/ or any local appliance parts house. It is # 16 on this diagram http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImagePageJava.shtml?productTypeID=0165000&brandID=0582&modelDesc=SIDE-BY-SIDE%20REFRIGERATOR&modelNumber=10650552000&documentID=P0070128&documentTypeID=PLDM&documentClassCode=PM&titleType=UNIT&titleID=00011&
