Perhaps one of your ethernet cables is bad?

When everything is connected, the "WAN" light on your router should go on, as well as the lights for whatever network connections your are using for your computer.

Obviously the cable that you used to connect your computer directly to the modem is working, so try replacing the other one.

Share Your Internet Connection with More Than One Computer- The Easy Way

Here is a simple way share your home internet connection with more than one computer. This will work for both wired and wireless and doesn't require alot of technical or computer skills to accomplish. I'm sure there are other ways, but if you're looking for a simple repeatable setup, here it is.

If you've got a dsl connection through a dsl modem, this TIP will work for you.
If you've got a cable modem, this TIP will work just as well.

Here's a list of what you'll need.

  1. Dsl or cable modem that works on your system and you can access internet with one computer (If you're using the internet, most likely you've got this already).
  2. Wired (Ethernet) or Wireless Router (wifi routers have 4-6 ethernet ports also).
  3. For Wired: Ethernet cable to connect modem to router.
  4. For Wireless: Wifi compatible computer or wifi card for your computer (follow manufacturer's instructions for proper install).
Procedure:
  1. Turn all components off. This includes anything on your existing network- computer, modem, printer and any router you may currently be using.
  2. With all power off, connect an ethernet cable between your modem and your new cable/dsl router(wired or wireless).
  3. Turn on the power to your new router only and let it boot up completely.
  4. Turn on the dsl/cable modem and allow it to boot. Since the router was booted first, the modem with recognize the router's MAC address (ethernet numerical address) and connect that address to the internet.
  5. Connect all the other components onto the router with the ethernet cables as needed and turn on the components- no particular order is necessary after the router and modem are booted. Your router will assign MAC addresses to all the ethernet components. Once the MAC address is assigned, your computer should work correctly with the internet and shouldn't drop out when the second computer is turned on.
  6. For wireless connections, boot up your computer with the properly installed Wifi card, airport card and allow it to "find" your router. Once you get confirmation of the signal, you're good to go.
Following this procedure will allow your modem, your router to use their designed software to connect you without a bunch of programming. You will actually enjoy having more than one computer sharing an internet connection.

Remember this procedure and follow the steps again if you lose power and have to reboot your network.

Maybe the laptop is configured by default to look for a wireless signal through its wifi drivers, or a different previously installed modem. Go to your Computer/Control Panel/Network Sharing Center and set up a new connection there so your computer knows what to do.

Before using Internet Sharing, disable ActiveSync on your computer.
To set up your device as a USB modem
1. On your device, tap Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
2. In the PC Connection list, select USB.

I can't get the internet sharing to work. i had installed and configure the wireless router, Linksys WRTG45 connected to a desktop pc running win7. internet sharing is enabled on the modem. now we're using...

If you are using the wireless router then you will not use the Ad-hoc mode.
You aloso don't need to share the internet on the modem.
make sure that if you conecnt the computer directly to the modem, it goes on line.
If it is on line then you can connect the modem to the router and computer to the router.
open the setup page and change the settings of the router.
once ytou setup the router then you should be able to go on line on all the computer.
You just need to connect to the network on other computers.

How do you hook up xbox 360 to cricket a600 broadban

Yes, but if you want to connect the X-box and computer directly you may need to get a crossover cable. Sorry, I can't say for sure on this as it depends on the network card in the PC.

You should have a box in the configuration dialog for the Cricket saying something like "Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection". Be sure this box is checked.

I checked my firewall. All cords are connected properly. The same

When using a router with your internet connection (cable, dsl modem etc.) hooked directly to the routers data port it will use the roughter's dhcp to assign ip addresses to other computer on the network. If you have your internet connection hooked directly to a computer and are using internet connect sharing then you must disable the dhcp service on the roughter because the internet connect sharing has its own dhcp and it will assign all the ip addresses. to get into the roughter's setup you open a browser (internet explorer, mozilla etc.) and type 192.168.1.1

Most of DSL modems are connected to PC with USB cable...
n if ur server is connected with other pc on lan .. you can use internet sharing option available in winxp.

Following are the steps to enable Internetsharing for other pcs.

How to use Internet Connection Sharing loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); To use Internet Connection Sharing to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter that is configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem that is configured to connect to the Internet.

On the host computer loadTOCNode(3, 'summary'); On the host computer, follow these steps to share the Internet connection:
  1. Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
  4. Click Network Connections.
  5. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For example, if you connect to the Internet by using a modem, right-click the connection that you want under Dial-up.
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
  9. If you are sharing a dial-up Internet connection, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box if you want to permit your computer to automatically connect to the Internet.
  10. Click OK. You receive the following message: When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP
address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on
your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them
to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet
    Connection Sharing?
  11. Click Yes.
The connection to the Internet is shared to other computers on the local area network (LAN). The network adapter that is connected to the LAN is configured with a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

let me know if it helps.
