SOURCE: BURN HOME VIDEO TO DVD

Assuming that your camera is not equipped to interface directly with your PC, here are the steps to take to get your videos from VHS to DVD:

- Purchase a video capture device.
A cursory websearch garnered once for $50.00 here:

- After setting the device up, use the bundled software to convert the video file into DVD format and then burn to disc, using your favorite burnig software. Be sure that it is burning in the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS format and not just copying the .avi to the DVD.

If you would like for me to elaborate on anyt of these instructions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at [email protected]. Good luck and, again, let me know if there's anything else I can do. I think you'll be just fine though as this process is fairly straightforward...just time-consuming.

SOURCE: I want to get the video on my JVC GR-AXM17U VHS-C

Software, Cables. Thats about it. There are a couple of ways to do it. If your JVC has a USB port & cable then using the software that came with the camera, OR downloaded from the manufacturers web site, install that, THEN connect the camera up, most likely it will show up as a "Drive" then you should be able to simply Copy & Paste your files as normal. Then once on PC you can manipulate them however you want. IF you have Composite Video & Audio OUT on JVC, and you have some method of getting Video & Audio INTO your PC, then you can also use this, Plug it all in, start your "Recording" software, then Press Play on JVC, You can get USB Video input dongles, 7 or, some video cards allow Video IN too.

Using movie maker to upload from JVC GR-axm17u (older camcorder) Got it hooked up to pinnacle usb device. I see the movie clip on my PC but the quality is terrible. Looks great on my camera as it is...

The USB device may be converting the footage to a very compressed codec.
Computer playback is not intended for interlaced footage as the camera produces so this may impact on the viewing.
Converting Compact VHS is best done with an Analogue to Digital Converter over a firewire connection rather than a USB device if you wish to edit in Movie Maker.
