Question about RCA P46924 46" Rear Projection Television
There is a blue ghosting over all dark areas on the screen. My son took the back off and looked at the projectors. He said that the blue seemed to have less liquid(?) under the lens than the other two colors. Is ther supposed to be a liquid under the color projector lens? Is this "low liquid level" causing the ghosting problem?
I think your son figured it out. check also to see if the liquid is cloudy or has any debris in it, if so it could use a change while you're at it. unless your son knows how to work on the TV(in addition to diagnosing the problem) you should have it looked at, with the advantage that now you know the problem, and what you're going to be charged for. to change the fluid, the only way to do it properly is to completely remove the CRT assembly from the set, drain it, disassemble it, clean it THOROUGHLY (I use a LOT of Windex to do it) and reassemble it paying close attention to get it together correctly. And don't forget to discharge that HV lead at the splitter blocks BEFORE doing anything else! The best way to put in the new fluid is from a squeeze bottle with a funnel shaped nozzle. A hair dying kit will have what you need, usually. you should make sure you're using the same type of liquid as was there originaly, because different liquids have different optic behavior. Have fun!
