Hello
Just make the picture status button on the remote control and get the display setting to its factory mode.

The VIDEO STATUS button gives you a choice of three TV picture display settings, including a
display of your own preferences.
Standard - Resets the picture display to the factory settings.
Dynamic - Heightens contrast.
Theater - Gives a rich, film-like look to video. (AV-27D303, AV-27D203 and AV-20D303 only)
Sports - When you watch a sports program. (AV-27330, AV-27320 and AV-27S33 only)
Press the VIDEO STATUS button repetedly to get these choices.

If this cannot rectify the problem of your TV, the power regulator section in the circuit board should be checked for over secondary voltage. If there is voltage more than normal [DC regulated voltage, not the Line voltage of your hose]; picture will bloom out and some pard at the edges will be invisible.

How to adjust brightness 40e220u

To adjust the brightness to your preferred level on the Toshiba 40E220U, you need to access the Personal settings section of the Picture settings. Press Menu (on the TV or remote). The Menu button is the second button from the bottom of the buttons on the side of the TV. On the remote, it's the button above Eject and to the left and below the left arrow key. Use the Left/Right arrows to select the Picture icon. Press the Up/Down arrows to navigate this sub-menu. To select an item, press Enter. The Picture Settings is the second item from the top in the Picture menu. Once highlighted, press Enter. Then navigate to the Brightness line, press Enter. Use the Left/Right arrow keys to adjust the brightness. (Note: you may need to adjust the contrast as well. That is a separate option.) Use the arrow keys to highlight Done after adjusting the brightness. Then press Enter to save. If you select Reset and press Enter, the TV will return to the previous settings. You may also need to adjust the Mode (one line above Picture Settings) to Preference instead of the Movie or Standard mode.

You can find this information in the manual which is available here: https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=3259132 . My file history gave the direct link of https://content.us.dynabook.com/content/support/manuals/userguides/su3221447/GMA300011011_CCFL_11Dec08.pdf for the manual. Most of the information is on page 72. However, the use of the TV and remote buttons is described on page 42; this is towards the end of the summary of the Menu layout.

I hope this helps.

JVC HD-56FN97 when turned on blue light is solid, red ligt blinks a few times and goes out. My picture is very dark despite adjustments I make in the menu, any help or feed back apreciated.

The set does use a lamp for a light source and average life is 2 years or 2000 hours---many lamps before they actually fail get to be darker.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.
