The air the unit blows out sometimes smells musty/moldy. Also, if you leave say a glass of water in the path of blowing air, the glass and water will take on a bitter taste.

Most common cause is water sitting in the bottom of the a/c heater box. Make sure the outside drain is open. There are spray products for using on the vents.
When a moldy or musty smell develops in a washing machine, many times
the smell is coming from the open areas of the agitator. Water along
with soap and/or liquid softener sometimes splashes into an open
agitator, and when the lid is closed it does not dry out. Instead, mold
begins to form, and a musty smell wafts from inside the machine, even
after the lid has been opened for an extended period of time. Until the
mold is removed the washing machine will continue to smell bad, even if
it is used and allowed to air dry with the lid open. The tub can also be the source of the smell. Lint can gather and collect
in the holes, and when it does not dry fast enough it ends up smelling
musty and moldy. Even the top of the rim can become moldy and musty, but
proper cleaning can get rid of the odor.
So that said.To clean the machine, fill to just above the top row of holes in the tub.Add 2 cups of bleach.Let sit for 1-2 hours. Then let the machine run it`s wash cycle.Lastly use bleach water and a rag to wipe the machine down inside and out.If the agitator has a cup on top remove and clean with bleach.Leave the top open so the machine can dry.
Now it should smell better,if so use as normal, and leave the lid open when not in use.
need to clean the bellow ( rubber around door). theres a tablet you can buy called "Affresh". It will help to remove the moldy smell. just throw it in washer and run through a regular wash cycle. no clothes, just the tablet. If there is a clean cycle on the machine then use that cycle. Whenever you're finished washing, you should leave the door open for about 20-30 minutes so unit can air out. Also you should wipe around the glass and bellow after each use.
It sounds like your leaving the clothes in the washer long after the cycle is finished. Once your clothes smell from the washer they will smell moldy dry.
all front load washers have the problem. Mold and a build up or dirt and soap and fabric softner cause s old musty smell. The low water use makes the machine dirty and build up inside. Run a few Hot water washes with out clothing, Run it empty ,(run your hot water neer your washer to get the cold water out of the house pipes) hot water and pour bleach in side, 2 or more cups. Keep doing it. When your not using washer leave the door open so air can get inside. Hot wash,es with bleach will keep it clean, also dont use fab softner.
Possible explanation: Some water is left in the hose going up to the
drainpipe b/c the pump can only pump water with water, not air... so
when the last bit of water is sucked up, it 'stays' just the other side
of the pump exit nozzle and keeps the drain tubefilled. This water
gradually leaks thru the drain exit valve and back into the machine,
sometimes siphoning standing water in the drain trap with it.
The problem is design. Not all of the water is getting out after each
cycle and not all of the soap gets fully dissolved. After awhile, this
mucky slime gets 1n the drain hoses, pump and filter - and they all
smell musty - especially when the machine sits empty with the door
closed between loads.
You
need to clean the innards of the machine by doing a load without
clothes on hottest setting (Whites) and depending whether the smell is
bacterial (add 1 cup White Vinegar), fungal (add 1 Cup Bleach) or
clogged filter (add 1cup Arm and
Hammer with 1/4 cup SALT),
this should do it
(Vinegar for Bacteria, Bleach for Fungus and Arm and
Hammer with SALT to soften and loosen the slime)
Choose from above (not all 3 at once tho) and fill the machine with water and let run without clothes.
I would do the A&H with salt first, let cycle complete, then
restart and add a cup of Vinegar, tel cycle finish then redo with 1 cup
bleach
After treatment, leave the front door open after doing
laundry from now on so it can thoroughly dry out and get air
circulation. - Just open, not WIDE open ;-)
moldy smell, may not be mold at all, in fact most "moldy musty" smells actually come from user not using proper detergents, you NEED to be using an HE detergent and little amounts of that even. cut back on fabric \softneer if using, www.affresh.com new product to help alleviate this issue
