I bought the V. Smile pocket for my 6 year old in March. I have never tried it with regular batteries or with the standard rechargable batteries either. He was using the V. Smile Pocket with the power cord it would work fine for a while and then just shut off, so it got put up for a while. (Big waste of $90) I ordered and received the rechargable power pack for the V. Smile Pocket, put the battery pack into the pocket and placed it on the charger waited till the light on the front of the charger stopped blinking (approx 3 hours~ the recommended charge time by the way.) and tried to turn it on. With a fully charged battery pack the pocket wont turn on. Put it back on the charger thinking that maybe it wasnt on for long enuff let it charge for another 3 hours and lo and behold it still wont work. I have tried to find a solution on the V. Tech website and have found nothing. In searching the internet to see if anyone else was having problems I found lots and lots of reveiws that recommended buying something elseas lots of people had A LOT of problems with thier childrens V. Smile Pocket system as well as having trouble with getting V. Tech to do anything about it. Im very dissapointed as I bought the V. Smile Pocket in addition to the V. Smile system that hooks up to the tv and have not had a problem with that system.
Do you still have your receipt? You could try to echange it at the store. Vsmile is coming out with a newer slightly different handheld model you could try. Though, we have a vsmile for the home and a leapster as a handheld game. Which both of my children have loved. Have you tried calling Vtech about the problem? I've had to call before about the home unit and they were very helpful. (Incedently, I have had problems with that, so if you ever do here's a helpful tip: Reset the machine by unplugging EVERY cord and pressing the two front buttons together for one full timed minute! We were having problems with a power issue and this solved it) They may be just as helpful as Leapster's Leap Frog company and send you a replacement! Once on a long car trip my daughter got sick in the car, while playing, so needless to say the game system got it too. And when I called Vtech about what to do, they sent a replacement! Try calling Vtech and see. You never know! Good luck!! :)

The V. Smile website recomended that as well (disconecting all power, removing batteries ect.) but they only said to hold the power button, which didnt seem to do anything. Tried holding both for the full minute with out any power supply and it at least tried to turn on. I did get ahold of Vtech this morning tho and contrary to all the reveiws I read last night they seemed more then willing to help. They are sending me the paperwork so I can return it to them even with out the receipt and they are going to send a brand new one. I geuss it was just a case of being overly upset at the idea of having spent so much on something that never really worked right on top of not being able to get any information from the company at the time. I do want to thank you for the suggestions tho, it was deffinetly worth a try. Thanks!!!
