If you are accessing the internet from your computer through the 2wire gateway, then the problem is with the IPad settings. I have used many of the apple devices on my 2wire gateway, as well as my parent's 2wire gateway. I would suggest taking your IPad to a local apple store, or best buy and see if it will connect to their networks.
Also, if you keep it in a case, 3rd party cases have been known to block wireless signals from reaching the internal antenna well.
Good Luck!

Open your "Start" menu and go to the "All Programs" section. Open the Command Prompt program in your "Accessories" menu.
Type "ipconfig" in the Command Prompt and press the "Enter" key. Make note of the default gateway address that is displayed here.
Open Internet Explorer and type the default gateway in the address bar to load the 2Wire router's interface.
Click on the "System Password" link if you do not know your password for the 2Wire router. You will be asked to reset it with the system key printed on the router. Or call 2Wire support to get a temporary password.
Navigate to the "Broadband Link" icon to edit the authentication settings used to connect to the Internet. Use the "Home Network" icon to get to the wireless settings. Click on the "Firewall" icon for settings such as port forwarding.
