Here's an interesting trick to test if the remote has functionality - use the camera function on your phone and aim the remote towards the camera while trying out the buttons. The camera is infra red sensitive and it will appear as a white light on your phone screen if the remote is working.
So, your remote isn't working? Is it the TV or is the remote? If these questions apply to you, then read on!
Nearly all TV remotes use Infrared (IR) light to transmit your requested operation from your hand to the TV, like magic. We depend on them for our viewing pleasure! Sometimes, when our trusty remote stops functioning, we grab a fresh set of batteries and POW!!!... nothin'...
You can quickly check your remote to see if it is functioning using only 1 item... a digital camera. It doesn't need to be fancy or expensive... heck, you can use the camera in your second best friend... your cell phone!
Simply fire up your digital camera and aim your remote at it. While looking and the transmitter of the remote through with the camera LCD display (not the view finder), press a button. Did you see the transmitter light up? If so, the remote is functioning!
You can't see infrared light, but your digital camera can... pretty cool!!! Take a look at the video to see this test in action. (click the video a few times if it does not start.)
The tv remote that came with the tv unit. The tv remote might have channels buttons up/down buttons functions and numbers pads might be shorted and dead and no longer functions anymore.U have a Digital Camera turn it on take the tv rmote put in the front of the Digital Camera pushes each buttons one by one all the buttons that work u will able to see a flashing white light on the camera vewing screen, because the Digital Camera can read INFERED input signal to see a output u see on the the camera viewing screen. After u test it on the front of a Digital Camera any buttons don't have a white light flashes INFERED read out than those buttons functions are shorted and dead.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv original remote to replace and used.
Ur tv mute button might not be function anymore, because of rubber inner layer are worn out or the main CPU chip of the remote itself it shorted causes this problems.U have a Digital Camera, turn it on.Put the tv remote wright in front of the camera press the remote mute button,u will see on the camera viewing screen the mute button work or not wright away because Digital camera can read infer red signal output.Try website like Remotes.com to buy a new original remote or a very closed compatible one.
You haven't specified if all the other functions are working with the remote control or not. If no functions are working with remote control, either there is no infrared emission from your remote control handset. Check it with the help of a cellphone with camera option. Cellphone digital camera can detect the infrared rays comes out of the remote control. Just put the cellphone to camera mode, and place the remote control just about 1 feet away from its camera lens and push each button on the remote control and see whether there is any image of infrared rays indicates at your cellphone camera screen. If not, be sure that the remote control is not working, and should be replaced or repaired. Replace the cells first, and check. If this does not helps you and still the remote control is not working, replace it.
If the remote control works, and the all the other functions of your device can be set with it, the motor of the volume control or it control circuitary has damaged. To check this, you must have through knoledge in electronics and is a time taking service work. OK.
Testing remote control: The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera’s Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera’s screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals. Check if the remote is still transmitting. You can do this with a digital camera. Point the Remote at the camera's lens then start pressing buttons on the remote. If you see a blinking light from where the remote transmits on the digital camera's LCD screen, the remote is functioning properly.
If you do not see it transmitting, replace the batteries. If it still does not work, the only thing you can really do is get a new remote, there is no way to reprogram the LG remote. You can get a universal for for pretty cheap or you can contact LG to get the exact replacement remote for your TV to ensure it has all the functions needed.
if you have a video camera .Turn it on camera mode then face remote in question into camera lens.Have someone else look in viewfinder or LCD while you press channel button on remote ..If you see blinking lights comming from remote. Then there is good chance remote is good .If light from remote does not work when pressing channel .Then remote is bad .
Point the remote at a digital video camera to see if you can see the small blue infared light comming from the end of the remote when you aim it at the camera and press a button. if you do see the light then your receiver has a system control problem I'm afraid. You see your eyes cannot see the infared light but the camera optics can. Good Luck
