Okay.. here is the situation:
Purchased an HP ipaq rx3115 and used to have WiFi internet working all fine with my home network. Then, I added some program (God knows what) that made the PDA not get an ip address from the router I have. I could manually type in a static ip and do it that way, but when I travel this is cumbersome and would like to have DHCP doing the job. When I take my "broken" PDA to my school it picks up a good IP and works fine. How do I fix the problem at home?
Okay, before you respond, I have tried the following already:
1) made sure the router was sensing the PDA's signal and it is. I have MAC filtering for all my WiFi equipment because I don't want to make a security key.
2) have reset, hard and soft for my PDA
3) reset my router multiple of times and set it to have the default values.. which still picks up my PDA but won't give it an IP address - most likely my ROUTER because I can get a dynamic IP address at school.

Re: can't get dynamic ip address
What about your desktop pc? Have you checked the services on it to make sure it is not broadcasting DHCP? Also, think about switching over to Stealth Mode (Non-broadcast SSID) instead of MAC filtering. MAC filtering can be cummbersome and if it is just you, then do away with it.

Internet Protocol is also known as Ip address.Every users on internet
have their own ip address.Users on internet identify by their ip
address.Ip address provided by the internet service provider. There are
two types of ip address static, dynamic ip address...
address will not change forever ..Even if you reset the modem the
static ip address won't change.Static Ip address also known as dedicated
ip address..You can use for website..This ip is dedicated for your
Dynamic Ip address :
Dynamic ip address
will change whenever you reset the modem.A new ip address will assigned
for your connection...You can use dynamic ip address for browsing and
normal internet usage....you can use the site Ip-details.com check the ip address whether it is static or dynamic ip address
Static IP address is usually a single IP address provided by the ISP to you, which can be configured so that you can run a web server (host web sites etc), or access your home computer from any where in the world ( your computer and internet should be on ).
Dynamic IP address is usually IP address provided by the ISP to your DSL modem / computer (for dialup modems) for that internet session, next day or next time you connect the IP address will be a different one. (usually home internet connections are Dynamic IP based.
In a typical home environment if you have one wireless adaptor and planning for a wireless repeater its better to configure dynamic IP address in the repeater (so that you repeater will acquire IP address from the wireless adaptor)
Check... For Wifi On/Off Swich, also check for your Wireless IP. Connection Statut.. Make Shure it wile Conected with the same IP
Check your Firewall configuration...If So re-install your Drivers & Softwares...Save all your personal infos first... Good Luck.
My guess would be that the 'dynamic' IP address cannot be resolved properly on your home network: try using a Fixed/Hardcoded IP address in TCP/IP Internet Protocol for your son HP Mini.
Let me know how you go.
Had the same problem with my hp rx3115 . Worked fine, then the next day dead. power button, lower buttons, or outter reset button didn't work to turn it on. Okay so, i thought it just needed to recharge. Used computer cable for active synchronizing that also recharges, still dead. Then cable just for recharging. Finally comes on. Charged it all the way up, synchronized it, unplugged it, few minutes......dead. The battery is no good.
It depends what quality you need. If you need top quality you will have to go for something else like a dell axim x50v.
This PDA should be ok for watching a movie as long as it is encoded properly, at a low resolution that is.
It's the same settings as you would use for your home network.
