Text Cannot Be Edited After It Is Scanned to a Word Processing Program
Issue After scanning into a word-processing program, the text in the original is not editable. Workaround The process of changing text from an image to editable text is called optical character recognition (OCR). Text should automatically be converted in the OCR process when the Send To destination is a word-processing program. If it does not, check the items in the following list:
  • Select Editable Text as the image type in Scan Settings . In Windows XP, this setting is automatically selected if Scan Document is selected in the Director program.
  • Scan at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) for correct OCR conversion. Check the default resolutions in the Scan Settings on the Resolution tab.
  • If portions of the scan are cut off, turn off the Auto Crop feature in the Scan Settings on the Scanning tab by clicking to clear the check mark.
  • Tables, text boxes, and spreadsheets might not be editable. The border around them makes the OCR program read them as images. Readiris OCR, which is included with the HP Officejet G and K series, can recognize these images. Instead of selecting the word-processing program in the Send To list, send the scan to Readiris. Use the Table Drawing tool on the right side of the window to change the type of image to a table, and then use the OCR. The text inside of the box should now be editable.
NOTE: Handwritten messages might not be captured by the OCR process.

Your's Truly,

Christian from HP

How do I use my x5495 to scan a resume and then to edit it with my Dell XP computer?

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!
Best of luck, William

I AM NOT ABLE TO SCAN DIRECTLY TO PDF FROM MY HP 4255 ALL IN ONE PRINTER

Scan directly using Adobe software from computer

  • 1 Position the first page of your document on the flatbed scanner and close the lid.
  • 2 In Adobe Acrobat, under the File menu, choose "Create PDF", then "From Scanner" and then "Custom Scan."
  • 3 In the Scan dialog box, choose your configuration settings. This will vary based on the nature of the document you wish to scan (e.g. color or black & white, images or text).
  • 4 Click "Scan."
  • 5 When the scanning process is complete, Acrobat will ask you if you wish to scan more pages into the file. If you do, position the next page on the flatbed scanner and click "Scan More Pages." Otherwise, click "Scan Is Complete."
  • 6 Repeat the above steps as necessary to scan a multi-page document.

I have a Canon Image Runner 3230 which we also use to scan PDF files into our snap drive. When scanning a large job build, if the machine jams, the documents already scanned in the job build are lost. Is...

Hi mail. Let me tell you a workaround for this problem.First of all I understand every aspect of your question and problems as the document feeder for the ir 3220 is about the biggest piece of **** I've ever seen and I have been working on copiers since 1988.And when you use the "Universal "SEND" " function I also realize that for example if you have scanned a 500 page document and it jams at 499 you have to start all over again. That because the copier has established communication with the server directly during the "send" process and when an error {document paper jam} occurs, for whatever reason the error cannot be reconciled on the fly. BUT!!!!! :-) If you scan the same document(s) to the "Mailbox" function the copier can and will allow you to recover from such a mishap as the process you are conducting is all happening "on board" the device so if a jam or misfeed occurs in the document feeder during the scanning process the copier will tell you to put the stack of originals back in the feeder with page 1 on top. Then the copier will begin to feed the originals quickly merely to count the pages till it finds the the one it jammed on.Once it counts to the original it failed on it will resume the scanning process.THEN...... no matter how many failures have occurred during the process, once you are done the "SEND" function will appear as an option. At this point you will be viewing the "batches " of documents in the display because if it is a large document you will not have been able to put the entire bulk in the feeder at once. Now highlite all of the"files/batches" and hit EDIT. Under edit will be the "merge" option. Select merge and all the batches you have highlighted will be merged together into one big document.NOW selest SEND and designate the location you wish to send it to.Since the document in its entirety resides correctly in a "mailbox/hardrive" storage area it can be sent with no fear.I have many customers with this same difficulty and this has been a lifsaver. hope this help, and have a better day! :-)

How do i use the scanner to print a document?

My friend, you have the cart before the horse. Let me explain.

The technology used to scan is TWAIN which means Technology Without A Interesting Name.

If you want your scanner to print your document, first you have to scan it into your computer, using your TWAIN software. You will want to import the scan from the scanner as a word document not a picture (of words).

Following that process, you will have to load the new document into a word processor of some kind and send the document to the printer.

Most 'all in one' devices also copy. Why dont you copy the document instead of scan it? I dont know ... but this is the process.

Reminder, if you just scan the documednt, you may end up with a picture full of words that you will not be able to edit. You must import it as a document if you expect to edit.

Scan a Document and Need to edit in Word 2007

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. But either way, you first have to install the manufacturer's software. Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
