SOURCE: Toshiba DVD SD-3980SU2 or SC2 player loads every disc as "bad disc"

Toshiba says:
Information for Owners of Toshiba SD-3980 and SD-K750 DVD Players spacer.gif To ensure the satisfaction of our customers and to maintain the integrity and quality of our products, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. is issuing an important product update. This is not a safety issue.
Toshiba is committed to customer service and to continuously improving the quality of its products. It has come to our attention that certain DVD players bearing the model numbers SD-3980 and SD-K750 may at some point in their life stop playing discs due to a component part failure. In such case, the error message "bad" will be shown on the unit's display. Affected units will have "SU2" at the end of the model name (e.g., SD-3980-SU2), which can be found on the back of the unit.
If you own either of these models and experience the issue described above, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at 1-800-631-3811 for information on how to obtain a replacement unit.

My VHS-to-DVD Burned Disc used to work and now it doesn't

Richard,

It could be your disc is scratched or DVD+R can't be read in the DVD player. Check for any scratches. Then pop in the disc in to your PC DVD, to see if it's readable.

My dvd player won't play dvd

likely if cannot read disc, or no disc or error, that unit has either dirty or bad optical pickup.

Magnavox MPD850 dvd player won't play, only display no disc

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, over time the laser becomes weak until it can no longer read the disc, but you can buy a DVD cleaning kit that might breath more life into the player, if no! cheaper to replace the DVD player.

Dvd player won't play disc

The DVD read head may need to be cleaned. Sometimes perfectly OK drives also fail to read certain discs. If the problem is persistent, i.e. the notebook won't read any discs, then clean the head (with a head cleaner) and try again. If it starts working, fine.. If not, then you may have to replace the DVD drive. If the problem is only related to playing one particular DVD, then its the DVD that is faulty.
Hope this helps.
