Outlook & Hotmail

My Outlook is configured to retrieve messages from Outlook, but every time I click on the link to those messages, it spawns a new browser window for hotmail. I just want to look at the emails in Outlook.

If you turn on the reading pane in Outlook, you can just read the hotmail messages there without problems.
Only if you click on a link inside the message will it open your default browser.

Unable to open microsoft office outlook 2010 and link it to my hotmail acct

1. Upgrading to Outlook 2010 with a profile that contains at least one DAV and/or OLC 12 account
If your Outlook profile already included a Hotmail account, Outlook 2010 shows a dialog to indicate that in order to continue synchronizing between Outlook and the service you need to download and install Outlook Connector 14.

Clicking on "Upgrade Now" automatically starts the download of the OLC 14 package. Should you choose "Remind me later" you will still be able to browse the previously downloaded data for the Hotmail account, but you won't be able to synch until OLC 14 is installed. clip_image001_thumb.png Once Outlook 2010 is open the following message will be displayed in the main Outlook explorer if OLC 14 is needed: clip_image003_thumb.png Should you chose not to download the OLC and dismiss the message, Outlook offers another redirector in the BackStage - just select the Hotmail account in the account picker and the following prompt will appear: clip_image005_thumb.png Clicking on the Upgrade Now button will automatically start the download of the OLC 14.

2. Adding a @hotmail.com, @live.com or @msn.com accounts through the Add New Account dialog
Should you choose to add a new account that uses the @hotmail.com, @live.com or the @msn.com domain and OLC 14 is not installed, Outlook 2010 will prompt you to download and install it: clip_image007_thumb.jpg

Note: Should you choose not to install the OLC 14, Outlook 2010 will attempt to establish a connection to the server using the POP protocol. However this method only allows downloading your mailbox, while Outlook Connector also lets you view and update their Hotmail and Windows Live Inbox, Calendar and Contacts in Outlook.

Outlook Mail problem

you can find the following details on the site at the below url
http://www.ghacks.net/2009/03/14/hotmail-pop3-configuration/

Here are the information that have to be entered into the desktop email software so that Hotmail can be accessed:
  • Incoming Server: pop3.live.com
  • Incoming Port: 995
  • SSL Encryption: yes
  • Outgoing Server: smtp.live.com
  • Outgoing port: 25 (use port 587 if the default port is not working)
  • Authentication: yes
  • TLS Or SSL: yes
Please note that the names might differ depending on the desktop email client in use. The values on the other hand do not change. The username (usually the Windows Live Hotmail email address) and password are the same that are used when logging into the Hotmail website using a web browser.
There is no need for configuration of POP3 on the Hotmail website. wpsf-img.php google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

My computer has stopped downloading E mail to Outlook, it is on Hot Mail but apparantly the outlook Connector has stopped. Have been getting messages to upgrade for several months but the URL gigen only...

Hotmail not too long ago stopped their POP3 service for programs like Outlook and Outlook Express. I have advised my clients who use Hotmail to migrate to a POP3 free service such as Gmail, which can be easily configured for Outlook Express, Outlook, Blackberry, etc.

The upside is that you will be able to view e-mail in Outlook again. The downside is that there is no way to migrate the Hotmail e-mail into Gmail, other than forwarding each message to your new Gmail account. Additionally, you will need to notify all your contacts of your new address.

Hope this helped :)

Just purchased the labtec wireless keyboard.Love it! But one thing i can't figure out. The buttons across the top, they all work perfect except the e-mail button. Nothing happens when i push it. Am i doing...

That was what I was asking.
Most of the time, the email key on keyboards is programed to open Outlook (which is part of MS Office).
Being that Hotmail is an online email program, it really doesn't know "how to get there from here".
You can try reprogramming that key to go to the Hotmail login.
You will find the steps in the control panel of the keyboard (if you loaded the software that came with the keyboard, it contains the links to how to do this).
It would be similar to telling it to go to a IE favorite, but in this case, it would go to www.hotmail.com

Now if you have Outlook on your computer, and you have configured Outlook to "reach into" Hotmail to retrieve your mail, here again, it's just a matter of programming that key to go to your version of Outlook.
