Before now i never had a problem with my camera, and i can't think what i've done to cause it damage but... i turned it on today to take photos and the screen is clear and fine when about to take the photo. but when i press the button to take the photo it becomes all unfocused and has horizontal lines through it. these turn up also when reviewing photos and when i download the photos to the computer. this does not happen however with the movie setting. please help! I have a Kodak Easy Share C330 with the same problem. I have not yet taken any steps to fix--just researching what the problem might be. dw

SOURCE: my kodak easy share indoor pictures look fine when

Are the pics fine when printed?
If so I wouldn't worry about it since KODAK no longer repair this cam. model, but instead recommends an exchange.
You can get an exchange to a brad new model for the same money as a regular repair, but if you're happy w. your model then you might want to live w. a darker LCD. You can adjust the brightness of the LCD within Cam. Settings.

Picasa no longer recognizing Nikon Coolpix L5

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Picasa or any other photo cataloging program.

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. Now after you've recovered your photos, consider formatting the card in the camera to prevent this from happening again.

Lens error

I've got the answers...

Problem: Lens error.
Symptom: Lens will not extend upon power up.
Cause: Lens is impeded while trying to extend.
This is usually caused by one of two circumstances. (1) The user dropped the camera while the lens was extended causing a mechanical failure. (2) The lens attempts to extend while in a pouch or pocket without the user's knowledge. This usually happens when the user is carrying the camera with the battery in. When/if the REC button or power button is pressed accidentally, the lens will attempt to extend but can't. This causes the main drive gears to be damaged.

Solution: Replace the main drive gear assembly. This should only be done by a qualified tech.
If you've experienced this you know exactly what I mean. This should clear up any notion that the "Lens Gods" have cursed you. Although this may have appeared to be a mystery, it's always caused by something!

Problem: Lens error.
Symptom: Lens extends, makes a few buzzing noises and retracts, resulting in "lens error" message.
Cause: This is caused by damage to the focus lens often by impact, or sand in the mechanism.
Solution:The focus lens gears either need to be replaced or the assembly completely rebuilt. Again, this should be done by a qualified tech. It's a very delicate process.

Problem: Aperture unit failure
Symptom: images appear to be washed out, over exposed and often have horizontal lines through them.
Cause:The aperture unit is either stuck, damaged or not receiving the proper electrical signal to activate. The result is that the aperture remains open after the picture is taken and CCD is over exposed.
Solution:Completely rebuild the aperture unit, which requires complete lens dis-assembly and rebuild. Again, this should be done by a qualified tech. It's a VERY delicate process.

Hope this helps.

Turning it on before it completely dries out usually causes a short circuit. It can take up to a week with your camera buried in a bowl of dry rice to dry out. However, since you turned it on, it may be too late but try it anyway.
