My 10 year old Sub-Zero refrigerator works very well except for two issues: 1. I continuously have from 1/2 to 1 inch of frost build up in the center of the back wall. I have cleaned the refrigerator including the drain tubing in the lower area. I have also had the gasket changed by an appliance repair technician. 2. It may be a result of the frost issue, but I now have rust developing on the lower front lip area where the door closes. I have cleaned this area several times and dried it after each cleaning. Additionally, when the refrigerator was first installed the door was considerably harder to open than it is now. I thought this may be because of the seal/gasket??? I hope you will guide me to the solution. thank you in advance. Teresa

Hello Teresa,
I'm going to address the main issue and that is the frost ball in the refrig. That is due to a leak of some of the refrigerant having leaked out causing the frost ball.A company could come out and recharge the refrigerant and that would work for a while till it leaked again. What it takes to fix it properly is to replce the coil in the refrig. then recharge the refrigerant. That typically cost around $1,200.00 but will stop it from leaking ,and avoid paying $200 to have it recharged every year or less.

Sub zero refrig - ice forming inside

The solution posted previously is TOTALLY WRONG. A Sub Zero ref doesn't have a heating element in the fresh food section. Only in the Frozen food section. It has 2 totally separate systems for each section. 2 Compressors and 2 evaporators. They share a condenser. If you are having ice build up in the refrigerator then the problem you are having is a refrigerant leak in the fresh food evaporator. You need to have a certified tech come out and replace the evaporator in your refrigerator section of your Sub Zero. Not sure what you are asking about the thermostat.
