First make sure you still have enough ink in the cartridge: press the Setup button on the C7280 and, using the up/down arrows, go to "Tools." Press "OK," then go to "Display Ink Gauge" and press "OK." This will display levels of remaining ink for the cartridges.
If there is still enough ink left then you will need to do a full reset:

1. - Press and hold the "*" key.
2. - Press the "#" key and release both keys. Display should say "Enter Special Key Combo"
3. - Press and release in sequence the "1", "2" and "3" buttons. Display should say "Support" and display the FW rev (something like R0631R)
4. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says "System Configuration Menu".
5. Press and release the "OK" button. Display should say "Hardware failure status". If not there already, use the arrow key to select "Hardware failure status",
6. Press and release the "OK" button. Display should say "Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear".
7. Press and release the "OK" Button. Message changes to "Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue".
8.Press and release the "CANCEL" button as many times as necessary, so that, either the "Welcome to Photosmart Express" screen appears, or, the "Ink System Failure" screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
10. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message "USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER" followed by "PRESS OK TO CONTINUE". Press OK.
11. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the "ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS". Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation.

If the problem is still there, or reoccurs, replace the unit: the data communication between the processor of the printer and the printing heads is damaged and this is unfixable.

Welcome to Fixya!

  • Make sure you are using HP Genuine Cartridges. Generic ink cartridges does not comply to the standard quality of ink mixture which results to print quality issues and even damaging the printers printhead.
  • Check the ink levels of your printer. Magenta ink may be empty already.

  2. Verify that your printer is selected and then click Preferences . The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.

My HP Photosmart c7280 will not print pink or magenta. How can I fix this issue?

Sounds very much like you have a clogged printer head you should run the deep clean procedure form the printer dialog. If that does not fix the issue you may need to replace the print head.

The pink and magenta cartridges won't print. We have replaced them again thinking the cartridges were faulty, but still we just get yellow print. HP Photosmart C7280 All-in_One

Sounds like you need to run a printhead cleaning cycle. Dried inks can block nozzles - if they're blocked no amount of cartridge changing will make them work.

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.

Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now
If that does not work then follow the next step.

Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies.

If your color improved slightly when running the printhead option then doing more should help get better results. Sometime the printheads get really dirty/clogged and running the cleaning option more then once is needed.

If you get a slight line running across the page (from left to right) usually the indicates dust build up on the printhead or ink carriage. The dust acts as a paint brush being dragged across your paper as the carriage moves across the page during printing. You can clean the bottom of the carriage with a Q-tip or purchase some cleaning paper for your printer.

HP D135 - replaced printhead - still doesn't print in that color

try this link : I followed the directions and fixed the problem. the instructions that came with the new printhead weren't really complete.

Here's essentially all I did for my fix - Opened the printer top, turned the printer off. Removed the "bad" printhead, cleaned the metal contacts on the printhead and printer with windex. Closed the printer. Turned it on. waited for it to reset. Opened the printer. Turned the printer off again. Installed the printhead. Closed the lid. Plugged the printer in again. When it was ready I accessed the HP toolbox and alligned the printheads and cleaned the printheads. It worked. Here's a link with photos.

Printing light colors does not work

You RINSED the printhead???

I wouldn't do that again.

Try taking a damp cloth and dabbing it against the printhead nozzels until you get lines forming on the rage from the ink (the nozzels you're having trouble with specifically).
