My son is trying to install a Grundig sc 303 rescued from a scrapped car to my car. We find that when we turn the ignition key off for any length of time, we have to recode the radio. I know that when it was installed in the scrapped BMW 525 it was possible to play it even when the ignition was off, although it would switch off by default at the same time as the ignition was switched off, until you switched it back on again. Do we need to run an extra wire direct to the battery to enable the radio to retain its code?

The yellow wire should be going to a source that still has 12 volts when the key is turned off. This wire controls the memory of the radio.

Lost code for grundig sc 303 car stereo from a vauxhall astra?

First make sure that the code has not been noted somewhere within the car (underneath the ash tray, glove box , rear of sun visor etc)

To see if your code is available here for free then the radio will have to be removed from the dashboard (and if you are lucky, someone may have written the code on the casing ) .

If not then POST ANOTHER QUESTION

quoting the radio MAKE+MODEL plus ALL the LETTERS+NUMBERS on ANY LABELS ,BARCODES or STAMPED IN THE METAL CASING

note: Unfortunately not all radios can be decoded using the Serial Number

If not then try your Main Dealer ...........or take it into a Decode Service who will plug in a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM). This takes a few minutes and shouldn`t be too expensive
