Question about Palm LifeDrive Handheld

Preventing hard drive spindown

Everyone's complaining about the lag. Part of the lag is from the fact that the hard drive spins down to conserve power when not in use. Frankly, I'd rather have the hard drive spinning continuously if it meant less lag, even if I had to recharge it more often! Is there a software fix for this?

SharkCache or RLock maybe cause some reset when you use your LifeDrive. In other word, SharkCache or RLock makes the LifeDrive unstable. It will conflict with some program you install in the LifeDrive. Speed or Stable ? You can judge by yourself.

Try removing the battery, power supply, hard drive and RAM. Power up and see what happens, you Acer should complain. If it does, the mother board is probably OK. remove the power, fit the RAM and try again. If it now tells you it cannot boot, suspect the hard drive but power down, fit the drive and check it.

Hard drives can click for a couple of reasons, 1. the hard drive is not getting enough power to spin up correctly and 2. the hard drive has crashed totally which in fact can be fairly costly if you need data rescued from it - try another USB cable from the hard drive too as this may help.

It might be a bad power adapter, when gaming the computer is drawing more current then the power adapter can provide and so it goes to battery instead, i have seen this before on laptops when the power adapter is decent enough to charge the battery but when putting heavier tasks on the laptop it can't keep up.

As for lagging, most likely due to not having a good enough GPU, aka video adapter. But it could be hard drive lag as well. If your going to upgrade i would go with an SSD instead of a regular hard drive, you can get 500gb SSD's for $150 now days, its well worth the upgrade. And there is many place to get a new drive, most laptops just use a standard 2.5" drive. Try something like Newegg.com for a drive.

My ibook stays on the white screen but the apple and the spinning thing doesnt show up but i hear the chimes and i am trying to download my new os x software please help me get it to work

You may have a bad hard drive. The "chime" means that the iBook was able to power on, and the white screen means that it foung the efi or firmware, but the fact that it will not go to the apple or the spinning gear means that it cannot detect an operating system on a hard disk.

Do you have the OSX CD? Put the CD in your ibook, power it on, and hold down the "C" key. This will allow you to boot to the CD. if the hard drive is still good, then it will allow you to install, if not then it will tell you there are no hard disks available. Hope this helps.

Remove the hard drive and RAM. See what it does. It should go into BIOS and complain. If it doesn't you have a motherboard issue as it won't POST.

Gateway GT5058 no post, no beeps - power supply is OK, hard drive spins up, fron panel LED's light up.

Power-down the PC.
Remove all of the RAM modules.
Power-up the PC.
You SHOULD hear a series of Beeps. This is the Motherboard complaining that there is no RAM installed....this is normal.
*IF* you do NOT hear any Beeping, then the Motherboard is bad and would need replacing.....however depending on the age of the PC, it is usually not cost effective to do this, and sometimes you can't find just a Motherboard for sale and have to buy a whole used PC (same make/model,) and put your HD into it.

Post back with what the above test showed you.

What is conservation of mass and energy and give example

In fact there are 2 different conservation laws: conservation of mass and conservation of energy. Of course in a chemical or any other physical process these 2 laws will hold!
Conservation of mass: the mass of a closed (isolated system) system will remain constant over time.
Conservation of energy: total amount of energy in an closed system remains constant over time
Furthermore if we look into the relativity theory, it states that in fact mass and energy are two names for the same thing (the equivalence principle of mass and energy), neither one "appears" without the other.
Example: an iron nail left in a cup of water until it turns entirely to rust. A precise scale will register a change in mass. The energy will appear as heat, which will be lost to the environment so because of the conservation law you will see a loss in the mass of the system.

The only help I can offer is to suggest trying another power adapter first. I've serviced several Maxtor external drives that lit up but wouldn't spin (just clicked), and the trouble turned out to be the power adapter was just too weak. If the adapter is okay, the trouble might be on the interface board inside the case. You would need to remove the drive from its enclosure and connect it directly to a PC power supply to check it out. If the drive itself is in fact faulty, your only option is to contact a data retrieval company to see if they can recover the data from your drive. Be warned: this is an expensive operation.
