Question about Philips 50PFP5332D 50 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Hi everybody, I have a Philips plasma 50PF7321. Two main issues. Sometimes I only get half the screen on ( bottom half). In this case I get a "cut" image and not a "compressed" image, I am missing the top half of the screen. Brought it to Philips and they said there is no problem ( and I had to pay 50$ for it) !!! Weird thing: it will go back to normal every once in a while. Second: I turn on th tv and I only get audio.....no image. The image comes on sometimes after the tv is on for at least 20 minutes. Please note I have extended warranty on it and Philips keep telling me everything is just fine !!!!!!

It sounds like you have a problem were the Y sus/buffers board (the one on the left ) has issues with the connectors to the screen need unpluging cleaning and putting back

You have a Ysus problem. Sounds like a cold solder joint or loss connections on ysus main board.

SOURCE: i need help tv plasma phillips

When installing the software turn the set off plug in the USB and then turn the set back on. The software should install it's self. When finished just unplug the USB. If the issue is still there then yes replace the SSB.

SOURCE: Screen Problem

hi....Your tv picture is managed by several boards, the two specific ones are the ysus and the xsus. The Y controlls the horizontal pixelation and the X the verticle, if you are having horizontal problems then its the Ysus thats faulty, on this particular set, the Ysus board has two accompaning buffers that are particularly troublesome. I've had more than one of these sets in the shop recently with the same ailment.Sounds like your buffers are starting to go out. The screen is split horizontally by the two long skinny buffers attatched to the Y main, if the bottom one has one leg in the grave you'll be getting a partially black screen or no picture at all. The colored lines running through the screen are more typical of a failing buffer. Are you interested in taking this set apart and putting a couple hundred into fixing it?  When buffers go they usually take the Y main too. Worse case scenario you're gonna be out about $350 dollars to fix it yourself. Best case, a ribbon is loose on the bottom buffer and with a dismantle you'll be able to connect it again..

Download philips latest firmware here: Click sometimes glitches can be cleared with their firmware. Also this could be a sign that your vertical buffer drivers are over-heating due to a faulty Y-sustain problem. The best way to check is to remove the back cover turn the TV on and see which buffer IC is getting red hot by touching it. Be careful as the voltage levels are dangerous, get someone who's technically proficient to do that little test for you....

My 5 years old Plasma TV found half of the screen picture view not very clear.. The half colour seen blur..

Your Buffer boards or the YSUS main are bad. THe YBU-Y Buffer upper controls the top half of display, the YBL-Y Buffer lower controls the bottom half and the YSUS Main controls both those boards. They are located to the Far Left on and opened Set.

My plasma screen goes black on bottom 1/2 of the screen

In most cases the lower Y-Buffer board causes this issue. Unless you know how to work on a TV it is suggested that you have a technician look at the TV and repair it for you.

My plasma, bottom half of the screen is black and goes in and out. Now it's staying black on the bottom half of the screen. What's the cause of this and is it expensive to repair?

Hi, It is your lower Y sus Buffer. Runs about $80
BN96-03362A Y main buffer lower.BN96-03361A Y main buffer upper. Encompasparts.com Also try Shop Jimmy, And Ebay. Sometimes they are lower in price.

Phillips 42 inch Plasma -Screen Issues!!!

intermittent loss of picture on either bottom or top half of screen is specific to y buffer boards located on left side of screen going from top to bottom when looking at back of tv. the y lower buffer would be the board to replace to resolve the loss of bottom half of picture. if the top half also is going out intermittently could tied to upper buffer as well but just a note the y main board to right of these buffers drives those two boards so in some cases could also be part of the problem. if only bottom half is affected i would recommend replacing lower buffer only

Model 42mf231d/17 42" plasma

If the loss of picture is either on top half or bottom half of screen. there are y buffer boards that go from top to bottom on left side of screen when looking at back that control those sections. when there is loss of half of picture then buffer associated with that area would be at fault and would need to be replaced. when i see a degrading symptom such as loss of picture on top half or bottom half leading to no picture issue normally you would check heat syncs on y sustain board and if not heating up after a few minutes of being turned on would recommend replacing y main and both y upper and lower y buffer boards as they complete a circuit
