Touchpad doesn't properly respond on fully charged device that was under charging long period when being not used. When switched on, it immediately started to play something random; then over time, when switched on, it only shows main menu; any touch of pad just scrolls menu all way to very top or very bottom; right/left buttons do not work at all; when I press the PLAY button on remote, it plays randomly selected music; pressing >> or<< may change tracks, but randomly, from Babbitt to Xenakis or Nono when omitting anything else; on screen, there invariably sits the main menu.
ATTENTION, THE SAME EXPERT! Thank you, dear expert12, you put in me some hope, but I need to ask you more questions: 1)because the lithium battery is built-in, in no way can I leave the item WITHOUT BATTERY (as you write) - only DISCONNECT IT FROM THE CHARGER. Right? did you mean IT? and 2)do I need to disconnect it AND wait until the Gigabeat discharges fully... an all music in it will be gone? Speravi35ATTENTION, THE SAME EXPERT!

I was sure that Junoon007 is a person, but I see there are many under that guise. I appeal to a person who gave me an advice about Firmware update. Please instruct me in detail how to to that, step by step (connect to the computer etc.)I was sure that Junoon007 is a person, but I see there are many under that guise. Try to reset take the battery first and leave it for 3 hours and put it back again and try to check if there is changes .If nothing happens then updates the firmware / software just click below...
I have the same problem (related to ur problem) in my digi cam,i switched off and then switched on after a long break it works properly till today.so kindly switch off the device and keep it for few hours ,then switch on the device it wl fix the problem
seems like a issue with the touchpad - would most likely have to be replaced if its indeed the problem. A firmware update might be available have you tried that? Its unlikely to solve the problem if its a hardware issue but if its a bug in the software it might just fix it.
Due to heavy charging the device is facing this problem .you just keep your unit in OFF MODE FOR MORE THEN 24 HOURS WITHOUT BATTERY IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESET THE DEVICE.

sounds like something inside has shorted or blown. when you plugged it into windows did it say power surge on hub or did it say USB Device not recognized
Mine did the same, touch pad became erratic then stopped working, I could still access everything when linked to a computer. Then all stopped, on power up I got a 00000010 or 0000020 error and nothing.
I popped the end caps off, removed the two small screws holding the back on and found the strap of wires connecting the hard drive was almost completely dissconnected. Pushed the connector back together , reassembled and now all working
Identical problem - working only with power cord. Wont power on battery or usb cable.
I actually opened player and check every single option. (I am experienced electronic - tech.) Result: battery is fully charged (768 mA/ 3.97V on bench) Battery switch on bottom fully functional. (switching on/off 3.97V comming from battery) USB supply 5.0 V in perfect order. Conclusion: There is no "EASY" fix for this problem. It is either problem with firmware (low possibility) or semiconductor on logic board (practically not fixable on DIY basis)
I bought my Gigabeat 60Gb for $ 70.00 used on Ebay so I will live with this problem.
There is a little battery cut of switch at the bottom of the device. You can unbend a paper clip and switch it off. Then switch it back on after a few seconds. Plug it back into the usb cable to charge it. It should work ok now.
