When I switch on my YSP-1 I get a loud crackling and popping sound. For a while I could repeatedly turn the unit on and off until the noise stopped and the real sound started, but now it's just noise. Any ideas on what the problem is? From a quick search, I see a number of people have the same problem.

I signed up as your thread is one of only a few visible in a google search for YSP-1 max volume static burst fault. I just changed capacitor C73 from 330uf to 470uf (I ordered a pack of a load of 50V 470uf caps off amazon and a cheap soldering iron kit) This is the first thing I ever soldered in my life and it was so easy.

Screws off the backplate, screws off the 2 little plates on top of the soundbar, screws out of the silver frame and flip it out up and towards you to reveal the power supply and C73 is right there well labelled with a line on one side indicating which way to solder the cap, snip off the old cap and solder the new one on. Perfect fix for all static and power on issues on YSP-1!!!!

SOURCE: I get a loud static noise, when I first turn on

u have a cool sound projector but u have a baaaad power supply system. bad power supply design - u will get all sorts of noise when u power it up. i have a sub woofer with the same problem(which in my case is the way it is designed). i used a delay circuit. but in ur case i know YSP-1 has a clean start up. so, if the warranty still covers it get it replaced. static noises, pop noises are often caused by bad capacitors.

SOURCE: ysp-1100 clicks when power is pressed but does not turn on.

Sounds like a a pcb dry joint or a poor connection on a multiway plug / socket.

try removing and refitting all the pcb plugs - better still spray carefully with WD40

Goog luck, Gaz

SOURCE: YAMAHA YSP-1 SOUND PROJECTOR- LOUD STATIC NOISE FOR 30-60 SECONDS

had the same problem. Called Yamaha tech, They said try unplugging it it from the wall for at least an hour. That worked. Then it came back. My son the geek unplugged the cable where it goes into the unit and plugged it back in. Problem went away! So.... methinks it's as simple as keeping the contacts going into the wall outlet AND the plug going into the unit CLEAN. Here's a link on some good ideas on how to do that: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15476

Sub Speaker giving intermittent loud crackling and sharp loud popping sounds even with main volume control turned off. Crackling sound can be reduced by turning sub volume control off.

It may be the control itself too. In time, these controls can get dust build up inside it. There are volume control spray cleaners available from Radio Shack or other electronic parts stores. The cheat on cleaning the control is to just rotate it from stop to stop as many times as it takes to clear the noise.

Westinghouse TV making crackling sound

I have had the same issue with a Westinghouse 50 inch LED TV. I believe it is not the power supply but the HDMI input. You can temporarily work around by plugging your primary source into the other HDMI. You may also get some relief by using the Westy remote, finding the TV menu, then selecting (Option) (Restore All). There may be an arcane procedure to reset the HDMI.

My magellan turned on one time and napped, crackled and popped and shows that it has loaded but it nothing will come on. I can't use it, what do I do?

If your unit popped and crackled, sound like something has blown internally. You will need to send the unit in for repair.

Loud repeating noise until the water trigger is pressed

Check the pressure washer for leaks. That sound is probably the unloader valve recycling as the machine slowly looses pressure and needs to build it up again to max pressure.
