My 2002 X Type makes a hum noise only when backing out of my drive way, when taking off slowly from a light, and when making slow right turns. Is this a bearing problem or a brake problem? The hum noise alse gently vibrates the car. I feel it more when I put my hand on the emergency brake handle as it hums.
I have a 2005 X Type doing the same thing when backing up, turning left and in soft braking... Is this also related to the wheel bearing?I have a 2005 X Type doing the same thing when backing up, turning left and in soft braking... Is this also related to the wheel bearing?

Single knock, or repeating? If repeating, do the intervals slow down as you slow the car?
Did your mechanics change wheel bearings, CV joints, or anything in the brakes?
without any info, we're guessing....
If this noise is only while moving, I found a possible solution some time back. On the right side of this car (if I remember right) mounted on the subframe, there is a carrier bearing on that axle shaft. On this particular car, the bearing was still good but the u-shaped bracket it sits in was broken which allowed for humming and vibration. There was also a bad motor mount which also created a "humming" (I guess you could call it) and that was there while the car was stopped and running. The "humming" would change with the rpms. I hope this has helped to pin point your problem. Please let me know how this worked out for you or if there's anything else I can help you with. Thanks and good luck!
it could be the clutch throw out bearing making the noise however it still could be a belt.check the condition of the belt and tightness of the belt(s) as well as the tensioner first as this is the cheapest to do if its the problem.the reason the noise goes away while driving is because the load(torque) on the component is less than when your taking off from a stop or driving slow.
sounds like you have a problem with one of your lines on your power steering or one of its components. the grinding noise could also be one of your pulleys that have gone bad too. check your steering assemby gear box.
when slowing to make right turn is it more like a clicking noise, does it do it while turning or just when slowing down. If it is while you are turning it is most likely the right cv axle drive shaft popping. When at a stop with ac on does it shake if you put it in park and how do the rpms read in park or in drive. Did they change the trans mount also dont thank that is it just trying to get a better understanding so I can better assist you.
if it makes the noise more at speeds around 100kmph than you most likey need a wheel bearing but if its noticable aspeeds under 20 kmph than its probable a u-joint
