Anonymous Posted on Aug 09, 2011

I own a linksys E1000 wireless router. After a storm & power blink-out, I could not access internet. Notice the 1,2,3,& 4 lights not lit. all other lights on right side were blinking. When I cant connect to web for service, I don't know how to reset the unit. Tried unplugging internet connection and elect connection. Is there a service manual for this unit, or telephone number for support when I cant get internet access? email [email protected]

Hi,

Normally on the back of the routers there is a small reset button you can press and hold for 15 seconds. This will reset the unit.

Click here for linksys tech support page. At the bottom there is a live chat option.

That is connect.
You will need to connect the router to the modem with the Ethernet cable.

First connect the computer to the modem with the Ethernet cable. Make sure that you can access Internet without router.

Connect the computer to the Ethernet port 1 and modem to the Internet port on Linksys router.
Open the setup page of the router.
Change the Internet connection settings according to the Internet service provider.
Create a wireless network and then connect your computer and other devices to the wireless network.

I have used the Linksys CD to setup my wireless connection to e1000 wireless router; in diagnostics, I discover that I am connected to the router but not to the internet. I also try setting up ethernet to...

Make sure the Modem is plugged into the correct port on the E1000 (far left port labelled 'internet' on a yellow background). Unplug all the devices power cables and restart them in order from the wall (modem - router - PC/MAC) make sure the modem has link and activity lights flashing, if there is a light for 'internet' wait for it to be on before plugging in the router. You might want to call your ISP and confirm theres nothing funky with the line/modem.

The internet connection in my area went down yesterday, but i didn't know this and thought the reason i couldn't access internet was a problem with my linksys wrt54g router. So i unplugged and...

The first thing you should do is a proper 'powercycle' for all of your internet equipment.

To do this:

1) Unplug the power to your modem and your router, and power off your computer.
2) Wait a full minute.
3) Plug the power back in to JUST the modem.
4) Wait some more - for the modem to fully connect to your ISP, and the lights to indicate. If you're not sure, just wait about 2-3 minutes.
5) Plug the power back into the router.
6) Wait another minute or two for the router to finish connecting.
7) Then turn the computer back on.

You can bypass the computer turning on and off if you can repair your wireless connection.

If this doesn't work, there is a pinhole sized reset button on the router itself that you will need a toothpick or somesuch to press - press and hold the button for 5 seconds, and then try the steps above again. If you do this, the network id and password will be reset to the default, just like it was when you bought it.

I cannot connect wirelessly to my router from my lap top

Check this link

Set up a Linksys Wireless Router
  • 1 Choose and purchase a Linksys router, taking into account your budget and computing habits.
  • 2 Attach the antennas to the Linksys wireless router.
  • 3 Place the router in a central location, making sure it's not surrounded by metal. (A signal can't be obtained through metal.) The router should be located so that the distance between clients (computers) is somewhat equal. This will create a better connection.
  • 4 Plug the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the back of the Linksys router.
  • 5 Connect a computer to the router by plugging another Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer and attaching the other end to one of the available ports on the back of the router. You can choose any port except the one labeled "WAN."
  • 6 Plug the router into an electrical outlet.
  • 7 Wait for the power light to stop flashing, at which time the router is finished booting up. While the router is booting, the power light will be blinking. This process may take a few minutes to complete.
  • 8 Reboot your computer so it can access a new IP address from the router through the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  • Configure the Router
  • 1 Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."
  • 2 Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank.
  • 3 Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."
  • 4 Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.
  • 5 Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.
  • 6 Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

Im tryig to piggyback my wrt54g router to another part of the house. I have a cable coming from my linksys e1000 n router which is my main router. When i plug the cable into the 54g i can access the router...

What is the IP address of the E1000 router ?
If the IP address of E1000 router is 192.168.1.1, Then change the IP address of WRT54G router to 192.168.1.2. Connect the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port of E1000 router to the Ethernet port of WRT54G router ( port 1 of E1000 to port 1 of WRT54g). Disable the DHCP server.

You can do it in a different way also.
If the IP address of E1000 is 192.168.1.1. then change the IP address of the WRT54g to 192.168.2.1. Do not disable the DHCP server of the WRT54G. Connect the E1000 to the Internet port of WRT54G.
