I aim to try, though, at this point, I seem unable to even install LD's Palm Desktop/Hotsync, the install prog crashes, Hotsync crashes on windoze startup.

I have the same problem so I contacted Navman on 1300 628626 and without any hassles they said they'd post me a copy so if I were you I'd give it a try. God only knows I tried other ways to no avail.
Solution to get GPS Navman N40I working with Windows Vista. I solver the problem (most of it) by uninstalling the old activsynk witch was delivered with the manufactory CD. Then I downloaded from “http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx” Windows Mobile Device Center. After installing this software I connected my Navman N40I to my PC and waited to for the Mobile Device Center application to load. When it tried to gain partnership with my GPS I removed it. Voila, and the SmartST Desktop 2006 SE application was able to communicate with my GPS. Hope this will help you! Kind regards Mega A
I found out that the phone i have will not connect with my navman S50. I tried a couple of other phones and it worked without a hitch. All i wanted to do was confirm that the bluetooth function on my navman was working. Thank you.
