Hi,
8 times flashes shows error in D board and T8005 Fly-back Transformer, Horizontal Output Transistors, and many more critical parts can be defective / suspected. If you need D board part number, please let me know.
The flyback transformer is defective when the LED flashes 8 times. The FBT is located on the main board(D board).
Location of the part is T8005 and the Sony part number is 1-453-285-41
This part is available from this website.
This type of repair might not be a DIY due to the danger of working with devices that generate high voltages.

You said tv shuts off does it try to come on then shut off? It is also very possible you have a defective Tube R/G/B i have replaced a few. You also have a little blue capacitor located right behind hori output Transistor look to see if it is burnt,or has small hole on side of it.1200pf 2Kvs
