I have a canon powershot A3100 IS and every time I try and upload pictures to my computer it keeps saying communication error. I am getting really frustrated. I have tried other USB ports on my computer and I have also tried different cannon cameras and they have uploaded successfully. However my PowerShot camera is still failing to upload at all. I have tried charging the battery, using a different computer, using a different chord to upload the photos with and I have even tried shutting my whole computer system down. I have looked everywhere and I just want to upload my pictures from my vacation. Please help me out here

Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume my suggestion to use a card reader solved the problem.

Trying to upload pictures to my computer from my canon powershot sd1100 IS digital elph camera but it says "communication error" how do i fix this so i can upload them?

This type of problem arises many times,at first they work but the more you use them the terminals tend to loosen up,even if the camera is new.So most of the time my best solution for that is to purchase a multiple memory card reader(usb 2.0).Most don't require any installer, just plug the reader to your computer and slide in any memory card you have and you will be able to upload any media you want. What I have is Ohm USB multi card reader/writer,it has been doing it's job since I got it.

Communication error

Use a card reader instead of the camera.

Communication error when uploading pictures on computer

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.
