I-link malfunction I successfully downloaded the upgraded free softwear package from the Sony site in order to burn DVDs from tape from my older model DCR-TRV260 Handycam, I think. I needed to do this for our new computer running Vista Home Basic. But when the screen orders me to click 'import, I get the same message from both the softwear and the computer, that the I-link cable in not properly hooked up and/or, the device (the camera) has malfunctioned and is not recornized by Windows. I switched among three differedt I-link cables to no effect. Do I take the camera to a repair shop to check if I am getting output from the DV output? because I do get output from the camera to my DVD player. Thank you, Bruce.

Did you download your Win7 upgrade or did you buy a boxed copy? If you have a boxed version, check in the box. My Win7 upgrade came with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit DVDs in the box. Try using the other optical disk in the upgrade package. If only one disc is in the package, contact the source where you got the upgrade. Only the package for installing a new OS (OEM or full version) comes with just the one disc included. For those, you need to specify the type of system on ordering.

If you downloaded the upgrade, you will need to get a different upgrade file and burn it to disc or make a USB installer for that version of Windows 7.

To confirm your current version of Windows, click Start and choose the Control Panel. Click on System and Security and then on System. This page will display the Windows version and append x64 if you have the 64-bit version.

Alternatively, download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor , and it will confirm if your system is compatible with Windows 7 and which version you need.

You need an MPEG-2 Decoder, it's a software program that will allow you to play DVDs, download VLC media player from www.videolan.org (free), It is kind of like windows media player but will allow you to play DVDs

Select the model of the device, click Downloads and Drivers and select the hardware version. Scroll down and you will see firmware file. Download and save it on the desktop. try to upgrade.

well if you were to burn them via windows vista, I'm sure you could do that directly from your computer, if not I'd just talk to a real person (custumer service line, a shop etc.)

An I link cable is a firewire cable. If your computer doesn't have a USB port on it you will have to get a Firewire cable with a small connector on one end and the standard connector on the other side.
