How to connect the canon ma-200 to the canon xl1

You can mount the MA 200 shoulder pad to the XL1 and plug the RCA connector and the mini plug into the port located on the back of camcorder, first open the door. Next, on the side panel where the audio controls are select AUDIO 1. Now assemble a mic using an XLR Cable. Then plug it into the AUDIO 1 port located on the MA 200 Shoulder pad and conduct test. if your using just one mic test the right side, take notice of the gauges located under the handle. the levels should be jumping like crazy. Now remove the XLR cable from the right side and test the left side making your desired audio levels. Now that should work with out question. If not just email me and ill refer you to the YOUTUBE VIDEO. Email me at: [email protected] Peace, Enjoy your video sound.

Auto power off

Link to user manual

No you can't turn off this feature

Nathan Petersen June 17th, 2005, 04:03 PM Is there away to turn the auto power off off. I dont think there is, just thought I'd ask, thanks. Don Palomaki June 17th, 2005, 08:47 PM Not on the original XL1. It will drop into STANDBY from PAUSE if there is a tape in the transport after around 5 minutes. If there is NOT a tape in the camcorder it will not not drop into STANDBY but will remain operating as a camera. Xander Christ June 17th, 2005, 09:25 PM Canon suggests that the only way to keep the XI from shutting off is to use the AC adapter as the power source, not the battery. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it's true. Don Palomaki June 18th, 2005, 07:33 AM True - in that when using the battery, the camcorder will shut down when the battery runs out of available charge. However, using the A/C adapter does not prevent the XL1 from going into standby if a tape is in the camcorder. Nathan Petersen June 18th, 2005, 04:52 PM Canon suggests that the only way to keep the XI from shutting off is to use the AC adapter as the power source, not the battery. No it still does it with the AC adapter, Im not even using the battery. It makes no sense to have the auto power off when shooting indoors while using the AC adapter, its just stupid. Don Palomaki June 19th, 2005, 05:59 AM Again, the key point is having a tape in the XL1. After about 5 minuts it goes into Standby mode (not the same as turning the power off with the dial). This is a carryover from pure consumer camcorders - to save battery and reduce damage to tape and head wear from a camcorder left in pause mode for a long time.

Pro users complained, so the XL1s had an option to disable this feature so that only the tape transport (VCR portion) is turned off after 5 minutes, the camera head continues to run. link to above thread

Airwave won't power up!

Remove back cover. Plug DC adapter into the bottom of the radio. Use an extra small paperclip or pin to push the 'reset' button just to the left of the white battery. Report back on progress.

Camera no power

You are right. It is not the battery. XL1s may have a blown transistors in the power PCB. It probably would not damaged any other are but power. This symptom requires a disassembly and removal of power PCB and repair. Sorry, I could not give any quick resolution for this. James. For further assistance, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

Canon xl 1s won't power up. Power light flashes, screen lights up then it turns it self off..will keep repeating like this every few seconds but won't stay on help

Just fixed this problem. It is one of the three main fuses that have blown out. This is not supposed to be consumer accessible or fixable, but I did it.
Open up the camera case using the 5 allen head screws disconnect the top ribbon cable going to the playback buttons on the handle. on the main board (behind the tape deck) are 3 tiny square black fuses The top fuse FU3201 is the VTR The middle fuse FU3200 is the Motor The bottom fuse FU3202 is the Camera/Lense
The bottom fuse was my culprit. I found a tiny piece of copper and bent it into a U shape and slipped it over the fuse so that it touched the metal terminals on both sides and bypassed the fuse. This fixed the problem.
Haven't used the camera extensively since, but shoot about 10 hrs a week with 2 xl1's and will post if anything happens.

What setting do i use to run my cordles mic in to audio 1

Without more clarification I am assuming that you have the onboard mic plugged in normally & I don't know where the RF mic is connected.

First thing is that we know that you get sound from the shotgun mic in ch. 1. If you do not plan on using the onboard shotgun, then the fix is easy! Since it has been confirmed that ch. 1 works, just disconnect your shotgun & plug in the RF receiver to that, check your levels, and shoot away.

If you are still wanting to use that shotgun along with the RF, then I suggest that you re-read pages 51 - 54 of the instruction manual. You can find where to jack in, how to set, and change audio levels on these pages. Good Luck!

Canon XL1

I paid the premium service but your tech knew less about the camera than I did. He didn't know the Canon XL1 at all. His directions indicated he had no idea how the camera worked.

I have a canon XL1 which has red icon in the viewfind looks a bit like a small cell with a line through it. any ideas

That symbol means that the backup (date) battery needs to be replaced. This is a button style battery and the replacement number is CR2025. It is located in a holder that slides out of its slot on the bottom of the camera. To keep your current settings, make sure you have the normal battery installed and put the unit in STANDBY mode when changing the backup battery.
