Question about Samsung SPH-i500 Handheld

1 Answer

Network sync Hi Forgive me if this appears to be a dumb question, but the PalmOS is still fairly new for me. I am using a Samsung SPH-i500 smart phone and am currently syncing to Windows XP. I would rather, however, sync to my MacOS (OSX) since I do most of my scheduling there. Unfortunately, Samsung does not provide Mac drivers for the i500 and, according to their tech support, does not plan to do so. I think, however, that I might be able to set up network syncing through my Windows PC, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have experience doing a LAN sync through a Windows machine to a Mac, and if so, what software do you use? I was going to download Palm's Mac software, but I'm asked to specify which model Palm I'm using, and of course, the i500 is not listed. If anyone has any experience they'd be willing to share, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Matthew

Not being familiar with (or a fan of) Mac, I did a little research and came up with this: Access a Shared Folder from Mac OS X. Open the Finder, click Go on the menu at the top of the screen, and select Connect to Server. Enter the following address, replacing COMPUTERNAME with the Windows computer's name: smb://COMPUTERNAME. You can also enter the other computer's local IP address instead of its name.

Not sure if it helps at all but there you have it.

SOURCE: syncing with PC (windows xp)

Without seeing the error files, it's hard to say what the problem is, here's a few guesses 1. Did you type your contacts into the default contact list? This is the one at the top of the Outlook folder list. You should NOT create a subfolder because ActiveSync by default only synchronizes that one file. 2. You may have an antivirus or internet security program that is preventing ActiveSync from synching. This would show up in the error log. To try this, turn off: - Any firewall programs (including the Windows default one) - Any antivirus programs - Any internet security programs If this solves your problem you should add them back one by one to isolate the issue. Then when you find the problematic program, manually add ActiveSync to the list of always allowed applications.

SOURCE: Hi I have a SGH i600

A common reason that a device cannot connect to WMDC is that the firewall prevents it. You can check it out by temperately disabling the firewall. If that's the cause, please follow the steps shown in the following article(If it doesn't work.... #2):

Another reason would be the necessary driver is not installed or is not installed properly. To install the driver, use "Windows Update" when your device is connected. To repair the installation of the driver, please follow steps described in the segment "Troubleshooting tips" in the following article:
