Ibm workpad sync & port issues help!

Everytime i try to do a hotsync operation i get a couple of error messages. my workpad tells me-the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again. when i look at the log it says- never synchronized. then my desktop hotsync manager says- the selected port,com 1, is not available at this time, hotsync manager will open the port when it becomes available. now i went to the hotsync help and followed the help steps, but it didn't do anything to fix those issues. i was told i had to download a driver to my desktop to get my workpad to work with my desktop. however i cannot seem to find that driver anywhere, and i thought the driver i needed for that was with the palm desktop software i downloaded from the palm site. can anyone help me so i can use my workpad with my desktop? one thing to keep in mind is that while i am very computer smart, i know absolutly nothing about pda's.

You have your Hotsync software set to use a com port instead of USB. Right Click on the Hotsync icon on the lower right part of your PC desktop and change it to USB and you should be good to go. The IBM Workpad is just like a Palm. I have the Workpad C500 which is actually a Palm M500. If you have a Workpad C505 it is a Palm M505. Anything you can buy for a Palm M500 will work with a C500 and anything you get for a M505 will work with a C505. If you do NOT have a USB Sync cable for your Workpad I suggest you do what I did... Just get a combination Sync and charge USB cable at Staples or Best Buy for your M500 or M505 and use it. It was about 20 but you can get them cheaper on the Net. I hope this helps you!

can you help me with this workpad ? Can't find a driver. I have the combination sync and charge stand. runnung Win XP Pro. When I first got it at least it would come on, had itt in the charger now for 2 days and still won't come on. I did not think these came with a SD card but this one has blank in an SD lot on the top and back. Should I just chunk it away

Hotsync problem

With a USB 1.1 machine .. try this ...My work around - disconnect ALL USB devices from the computer, NO multiport hubs, make a direct USB connection to one of the available open ports, then reboot the computer. Upon gaining control, then try to hotsync. If I had any other items connected or ran any other programs prior to hotsync, I was not able to perform a successful hotsync. The qwerks of the T5 and the sync conduits. Hope this helps Bob

The WorkPad c500 and c505 can be used only with PCs running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating systems. NOTE: Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft NT 4.0, or serial connectivity, require a serial HotSync cradle or cable, available separately from Palm, Inc. The WorkPad HotSync utility will not sync via IR when the host PC is running Windows 2000.

Palm Inc., the manufacturer of the IBM WorkPad, has recently informed IBM that a limited number of IBM WorkPad c500 and c505 models may be unable to use the HotSync function if a static electric discharge (ESD) takes place when the WorkPad is placed in the cradle. Palm Inc. has designed a new cradle for this condition. It has the Palm Inc. logo on it, but also works with these WorkPad models. Palm Inc. has a Web site that provides more information on this issue and also contains the Palm Cradle Exchange Program, which allows owners of eligible models to receive a new cradle. To determine if your WorkPad is eligible and to place an order for a replacement cradle, please visit the Palm Inc. Web site. Error message using IrComm port

Hi, Right click on hotsync manager at the bottom right corner of the pc , make sure only local serial and ir is having a check mark , if anything else has check mark , just go to that and do a left click , it will get unchecked . On the handheld tap on home , on the main page u will see hotsync icon , tap on that , on the hotsync page make sure via ir , and not cradle or cable , then at the top u will see hotsync in words , tap on that , in the drop down u will see lan sync pref, tap on that and make sure lan sync is highlighted , and not local hot sync , since local hotsync is usefull only when u perform cradle or cable hot sync using usb , then click on ok , try a hotsync . If this doesnt help and again u get the same error , do a soft reset on the handheld and on the pc , go into hotsync manager , click on setup , choose local , change the com port to a different port and reduce the speed to 9600 , click on ok restart the pc and again perform a hotsync . The error u got was coz of this , on ur pc a ir port is not been assigned .. Try this it should work .. Regards
