Hello, the evaporator will freeze from either low airflow or a low refrigerant charge. Check the air filter, blower whell to make sure it is clean and air is movimg freely. If the unit is clean and filter is clean then the unit is low on refrigerant due to a leak and will need to be rechaged.

One possible senerio that could cause this is the coils are frozen up. If coils are frozen, no air can blow through the coils into either the freezer or refer section. This is caused bya failure of the defrost timer. (Don't know where it's located on yours but on an old one I owned, it was under the unit (accessible by removing a front cover) at the front. If the timer (or defrost coils) are not working, frost continues to build until te coil is frozen solid. This would oresent itself as a slow failure to cool, that is, each day (over 3-4 days) the refer section will get warmer.

Coils are frozen on my standard electric heating system. It is not a heat pump

The most common cause of coils, lines or components freezing over are low refrigerant charge, lack of airflow across coil or a blockage of the condensate drain. If the outdoor coil is frozen over then the defrost mechanism may not be working properly.

I have a GE Profile Refrigerator model TFH24JRS. The coils have frozen up in the lower freezer compartment and the refrigerator and freezer are running warm. The condenser fan seems to the working.

Replace the defrost thermostat on the freezer coils and you will be good to go. Here is the part to order.

Why does my ac freeze?

On a unir like this the most common issue with freezing is a dirty filter or coil. Many times these front coils get dirty which impedes the heat transfer and next thing you knowm you have a frozen coil.

I have seen where the filter has been removed and the coil gets plugged quickly. That is 90% of the frozen coil issue.

From there you go to low on freon or mechanical issues with metering devices

Freezer cold but not freezing. coils are frozen.

If every coil , from the bottom one to the top one, are frozen, either the door is not closing right or the defrost timer is bad , but if half or less part of the coil is frozen , that means the unit is low in refrigerant and the leak has to be repair ( this is a seal system ) and after that recharge the system.

Ac will not cool down

first you need to determine if the furnace coil is frozen or iced up. The water around the furnace means that the water is not draining where you want it to go. This can be from a blocked drain line or a frozen coil. The fact that the system is not cooling may mean that the coil is blocked. Turn on your blower only and let the air flow warm the coil if it is frozen it will start to melt. The system is then low on charge or the air flow is blocked by a filter or bad blower

FRIDGE NOT COLD FREEZER WORKS FINE

Make sure the freezer fan motor is running. Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check for frozen coils. If coils are frozen replace the defrost heater and thermostat.
Check the air vents to the fresh food section,are they frozen closed?

The coils are frozen solid in freezer behind back wall

frozen coils not always means freon problem. low air flow across evaporator coils could cause freeze up. if door is opened and closed an abnormal amount could cause a freeze up or even something pushed up against the air intake in the refridgerator. i would thaw it out completely and restart it, theres a chance it was nothing major. good luck

If the coil was frozen over it tells me there is a different problem. If the coil is frozen over try this. turn the circulating fan to the on position and the sir conditioning to off . Let it run this way for 1-2 hours to melt the ice and re-establish the air circulation. Then turn the a/c back to the cool mode and see how it performs.

Lower temperatures during evening and night conditions can cause coils to freeze over. Running you A/C with the fan in the on position generally takes care of this problem when you are cooling.
