Sony Handycam DCRHC20... From tape to computer?

Hello everyone, I'm kinda new to the wonderful world of camcorders, and I bought a Sony Handycam DCRHC20 to start out. But I already have a problem, heh. You have to understand that I'm a total newbie to this :D. So here's my problem and question : With the camcorder, I got a CD called Picture Package, but with that prog, I can only burn my videos to a CD, or transfer them to my computer... but already edited! It automaticly adds a music, edits my videos, cut them... That's not really what I wanted... I'd like to transfer them directly to my comp, and edit them with a third-party prog. So, I'd like to transfer my intact videos to my computer.. I hope it is possible? I've heard some things about a fireware card, but like I said, I'm a total newbie and I don't want to burn money on this if it can't help me ;). Thanks for your answers.

You need a firewire interface, Firewire on the computer, and a video editing program. Windows XP has the moviemaker, which will do. A more elegant way is a Mac which will have everything you need included.

The playback is staticky (spelling???)or maybe the right term is noise - what can i do about this?

Kinda mosaic-like noise?

Possible cause
-dirty playback head
-dirty or worn-out tape
-running tape recorded from different camcorder.Tape will play back best in the same cam that recorded it.

Hi, I am trying to find the right lead to attach my camcorder (sony handycam, CCD-TRV218E PAL) to my pc to record tape to disc. Can you tell me the name of the correct lead. Thank you

Yes I think you are going to need the normal Sony Firewire cable, available from all good camera shops, PC World and Maplin, you are looking at around £15.
All the best.

How to copy a Hi 8 tape to a DVD on a computer

Hello,
Sony handycam model starts with CCD-XXXX shows that its analog camcorder and its picture signal is analog. You can't connect directly camera with PC to transfer files. You need to install MPEG card or some thing like that in PC 1st and this card will digitize analog picture signal into compatible format.
