I have a Linksys DSL/Wifi Router and I want to use a Netgear WGR614v9 as a repeater. When set up without security, it works. When using WEP, it doesn't. WEP - 64 BITS. Is there something I should know? E.g.: using the 1st password and not the fourth; or using specifically Shared Key instead of Automatic? Thanks, Neco

If you hold the reset pin in for more than ten seconds(I always count to 15) it will do a Factory reset...this will set all back to factory specs

Then you can set a new wep as well as an admin password

SOURCE: i do not know my wep key

If you don't have a manual, you can download it here.

  1. Log on to your router. Open a web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Log in with your credentials. (default username: admin, default password: password.)
  2. Click the Wireless link in the main menu of the browser interface.
  3. You will find your WEP key towards the bottom of the page.
If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

your easiest solution is probably just to reset everything back to defualt settings. there is a small pin hole button on the back or bottom to do this.

My Nook HD will not connect to the Netgear router. Is there something I can do?

It depends on the specific authentication or security method used by the router. A lot of newer devices will only use WPA/WPA2 security, a lot of older routers still use WEP security. If that is the case, you may need to log in to your router as administrator and change the security/authentication to WPA/WPA2 and choose a new password if the router supports that security protocol. If it does not you would have to buy a new router to connect the Nook to it.

Change password

Try to factory reset the router by holding the reset button for ten seconds until all lights blink. Then connect a computer to the router via ethernet and open a web browser. Type in 192.168.1.1 if it is a linksys or cisco, 192.168.0.1 if it is a d-link or netgear, or 192.168.2.1 if it is a belkin. Netgear and d-link usually have a sticker with user id and passowrd to access the router. If it is the wifi passphrase you need, then go ahead and reset the router to factoy setting. To change the wifi password, you will need to go toe wireless security settings where they list the options for WEP, WEP2, etc.

How do we find the WEP key for my WGR614v9

Configuring WEP:
  1. Use an ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
  2. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
  3. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
  4. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar. n101675_image001.jpg
  5. Under Security Options, select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
  6. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Authentication Type, select Automatic.
  7. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, select 64-bit or 128-bit. NOTE: You will need to configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  8. From Security Encryption (WEP) Key, select Key 1 and enter a key.
    • Note: WEP keys are entered in hexadecimal digits, which are any combination of 0-9, A-F.
      • If you selected 64-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 10 hexadecimal digits for your key.
      • If you selected 128-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 26 hexadecimal digits for your key.
    • SAVE or KEEP NOTE of these values - they will be required to connect wirelessly to your network.
  9. Click Apply to save the settings.

Recently we had WIFI installed in our business. The pass code is a huge alpha numeric number that is rediculous for us to give our customers for internet access. How can i change this passcode?

You'll have to log-in to the wireless router. If it is an off-the-shelf router you can consult the documentation or use a search engine to find out the default username and password for the router. For example, if you have, say, a Netgear WGR614v9, you would Google "default username and password for Netgear WGR614v9" You will also need to know what to type into your web browser, such as http://www.routerlogin.net (for a Netgear).

However, if someone set the router up for you, they most likely and should have changed the password if not also the username. You may have to call them to find out that info. If the ISP installed the router, call them.

Once signed-in to the router look for something like "wireless settings" or similar. Then just change the passphrase.

Be advised that making the passphrase shorter or easy to remember jeopardizes your network security. If you have any valuable data on your network you shouldn't be letting customers on it without taking precautions.

I have a Linksys wap54g wireless router and it has just started dropping the signal. My DSL modem that it is connected to is working fine. I have powered off and reset multiple times but without much...

If you recently started using cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum, this can cause your WiFi signals to drop-out.
Other forms of interference can come from:
  • Microwave ovens
  • Bluetooh enabled devices
  • Other nearby WiFi routers/APs using the same channel
Additionally, if you haven't secured your router using WPA/WPA2 security, a neighbor may be leeching off of your WiFi network and download files on P2P networks. This would cause your router to become saturated with traffic and appear to crash. Make sure that your router is properly secured with WPA/WPA2 security (not WEP, since it can be cracked within a few minutes) and make sure that you change the admin password.

How do i hook up the netgear to my laptop

you'll have to first connect the computer to the dsl/cable modem via ethernet cable, then connect the modem to your computer directly, then access the configuration page of the router and set the wifi settings including security option (WPA, WPA2, WEP, Shared), then open the wifi adapter settings on your laptop and make sure the security option and security key are entered correctly. disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop to the modem and test the connection.

I have two routers Netgear DG834Gv3 and Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7. I want to create a wireless bridge between these two routers, so that I can have internet on the Netgear router. The main router/Access...

I am sorry but I am not so familiar with the Thomson Device but I can give you a clue on how to set it up....you can skip the security settings first just make sure they work then you can set it later...Check it out!

- Thomson as "Master Router" connected to modem set up as follows
-- 192.168.1.1
-- Set up wireless access point as you normally would in Wireless Settings, muine are "MY_SSID",Channel 2,b+g mode,
64-bit WEP with hex key (rather than pass phrase)
--- Enter any laptop wifi MAC addresses in the "Client Access List" here to allow them and make sure it's set to restrict
them
-- Set DHCP range to 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.127 (my preference) in "Lan Settings"
-- go to Wireless Bridging and Repeating menu option
--- Set "Enable Wireless Repeating Function"
--- Set as "Wireless Base Station"
--- DO NOT check the "Disable Wireless Client Association" if you want to be able to use laptop wifi
--- Enter the mac address of your "Slave Router" here
Make sure all of the above is applied and has stuck, i had a habit of setting some things then clicking to a sub-menu
before clicking apply, always scroll down and click apply before drilling into sub options!

DG834G V3 : "Slave Router"
-- Get latest firmware as earlier v3 firmware doesnt support WDS
-- 192.168.1.2
-- Enable Wireless Settings and set to exact same as "Master Router" including 64 bit WEP key and MAC access list for
laptops etc
-- Disable DHCP in Basic Setup (I think)
-- "Advanced Wireless Settings" menu option
--- "Enable Bridging and Repeating"
--- Select the "Wireless Bridge With Client Association" (or similar) option
--- Enter the "Master Router" MAC address here
Again, double check everything has stuck, that the "normal" wireless settings for both routers are identical and reboot
both (in either order worked for me but booting the Master first is probably best practise)
GOOD LUCK!!!

Connect a wireless router with DSL modem

From the DSL enter into the router on WAN port.
Setting a secure network means, to set a password for your router, also set a password for your wireless too. Use WEP encryption, is better than WAP.

How to connect WGR614V9 to my computer without cd

Well you don't actually need software to connect to a wireless router, just makes it a little easier. First off if you had a wep or wpa wireless protection key in place and you didn't write it down and don't remember it you'll have to find something small to stick in the small reset hole in the back of the router and hold it in for anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults. Then you should be able to connect to it by Clicking start and going to "Connect to" and wireless connections and look for like netgear or wgr or something related to your router. From there we can now go to your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 in the adress bar and hit enter then enter admin in the user and password in the password spot and hit enter. from here you can set your wep or wpa security keys (remember to write them down as your Pc will ask for them when connecting again) and you can set up your own name and password of coarse. I hope this helps :)
