Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC40 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
With each of the units when testing in the store there is a constant humming noise when looking through the viewfinder when in the Camera Tape Standby and Record Mode. No noise in the Playback or Memory Mode. Why the noise? My old TRV 82 had no noise.
The noise is probably the motor running. As long as it doesn't appear on the footage, it's nothing to concern yourself about.

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.
